Well toffee, you've gone to a better place.

I saw you a few years ago, watched you being man-handled by kids, I often sneaked in over the fence and gave you quality food and hay. And on cheekier trips, I washed your water bottle and refilled it. I even snuck in comfy warm beds in the winter time and hoped you would be okay. Eventually, you came to live with me and you were over the moon with your new friend Jellicoe, it was boar love at first sight!

You didn't mind getting your nails clipped and were often bemused by the amount of hay on offer. You were the first to greet me for evening dinner and never complained. Grass time was an even bigger curiosity and never knew what to do.

I'm sorry that you had to go so soon, I was truly devastated to say goodbye darling boy.

Loved you loads.

Thanks Vicki, yes `I know. I try and look at it in a positive way - like most I will need time to heal, whilst he wasn't with me for even a year, certainly his former care raises eyebrows, glad I could make it better for him for a while anyway.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Toffee was so lucky to have been loved unconditionally.

Popcorn free Toffee. ❤️❤️

Oh I am devasted for you @Mother Hubbard. Toffee was such a lucky boy to have found you. He lived the last bit of his life with unconditional love and care. He is now popcorning and playing zoomies at the Rainbow Bridge. Sleep well little guy.

Popcorn free over the rainbow bridge little Toffee. ❤️

I’ve just had the autopsy on Toffee, his bladder was thicken due to infection but the root cause was his stomach, there was a huge infection and the vet believes something had gone very wrong and also believes his previous diet has been a major factor in his condition. He was rotting from in the inside out and the fly strike was secondary issue. There was nothing that could have been done and I believe the vet, the care and time he has given Toffee and I has been amazing. No 10min assessment and off you trott to the payment desk.

So I’m relieved in many ways it was the best call to end his life. It’s a stark reminder that when you take in a guinea pig from a less than desirable background in terms of husbandry you don’t know what you are taking on. However he had a good, short time with me. Finding grass, a new friend, quality food and hay. No amount of good care after was going to give him a long life.
So rest in peace buddy xx I’ve cried so many tears for you yesterday and today xx

It's so sad you have lost him after such a short time, but what a lovely life you gave him. Even when rescuing from a reputable rescue we don't know what genes or previous care our piggies have had. We can only do our best to keep them happy for however long they have with us. Toffee was so lucky to have found you.

Oh Toffee look what you have left behind.
:luv: and plenty of it little guy.
Let's hope and we all know your final months were spent with a fantastic piggie lady. We all struggle reading this.
TOFFEE RIP you deserve it pal. xx

Lil, i am sorry for the loss of your handsome little boy. You really did all you could. sometimes the odds are so stacked against us. Huge hugs

Sleep well little lad

RIP Toffee
