Just hovered on preloved for a minute or two to see if there was any good deals on piggy bits and bobs and it's bloomin' scary to see how many pigs are advertised on there. Some to lone homes, some in mixed pairs, some from people who have no clue and some for less than £5!

There is a breeder in Shropshire selling off pairs of boys she no longer wants - advertising multiple pairs. Makes you wonder where they will end up...

Sorry I know we are not supposed to advertise free-ads pigs on here but I just needed a rant. I don't expect anyone to do anything about them.

Another reason why the internet isn't such a good thing!

I swear since the internet became such a huge thing, breeding has just gone crazy!

there are so many puppies, guinea pigs and rabbits on these free advertising sites that its getting out of hand.

Rescue's are full to bursting and yet people keep breeding!

There should be a law that only people with licenses can breed.

As for dogs/puppies,i honestly don't understand why the law on having a license for them was destroyed. There are far too many young people taking on high maintanance dogs that are then dumped in rescues. Staffy breeding is well out of hand and these dogs have now become "status" dogs which is ridiculous, the ones that end up like this are often put to sleep because they have been trained to hurt, or because they have been beaten that much that they become unreliable in family homes.

It honestly is sickening 8...

Sorry rant over :(

There is lots on gumtree aswell I found one this morning wanting £10 for cage, male guinea pig & pregnant female pig

Oh I feel terrible now... I was one of them idiots who looked on gumtree etc and saw a few guinea pigs whom I really liked. So glad I came here and learning that it is not a good idea to encourage them.

I guess that not all the time do guinea pigs end up with the wrong person as I was going to purchase mine from there but until I thought I was ready. Least I am going to a rescue and hopefully I will get my guinea pigs from there.

Gumtree should not allow pets to be sold on there, only cars and other things like cages, accessories etc

Usually there are puppies, kittens, guinea pigs, budgies, african grey parrots... it is because either they have been bred or that the owner is stupid and cannot look after them anymore or has lost interest. I say they are stupid because a responsible owner would only give their animals away in the best and kind way. Ensuring that their pet is safe. If I was to give my animal away for some reason, then I would like to keep in contact e.g. via email, perhaps a photo or two every year? I certainly would do that if I bought my pet from someone. I think I might do that with the rescue and perhaps encourage people to go there.
