my 4.5 year old sow crunchie has been snuffly on and off after her spay- antibs made no dofference.

She was then at the vet last week for an inflammed conjuctiva.. Infection and foreign body where ruled out, and it looks like pea eye. It varies throughout the day, and i was beginning to worry that it was fluid retention related.

Tonight she has a little clear liquid in one nostril and has laboured breathing/ nodding. She is still bright but i feel sick with worry.. I am thinking this could be a fluid problem afterall, and may point to a heart issue. As many of you know, i already have a 6.5 year old sow with heart failure and is recieving palative care at the moment. I think some good luck vibes are needed :(

Hi, sorry about Crunchie snuffle problem, l have a sow Bella, 8 year old , who has a long standing (many years ) nasial problem, on a bad day she would make hooting noises.
vet did all the tests, and a concenertal naisil deformaty was suspected to be the cause.

vetenary meds were inefective, but then vet surjrsted l try suderfed,

0.3ml 2xday sorted the problem and her breathing is now almost undetectabal .

I have just been researching conjunctivitis for my guinea pig book, it can also lead to URI.
Sending you good luck.

Thank you for that- that would definately be a better outcome! Shes bright when active but sedate looking when in her house and is nodding very noticably.. Almost identical to how fudge started out and no one would take me seriously :(

Keeping everything crossed for Crunchie. She is in the best place if it does turn out to be heart related though.

aww bless, hope she's soon sorted. we know her mum will take good care of her :wub:
might be worth suggesting to the vet about heart checks if URI's & nasal problems are not present, see if they'll let you trial the meds that fudge is on & sort out a dose to try.

healing vibes being sent by the shedload for the girls & a hug for you. it all seems to be happening at once for you :(
xx

Crunchie was at the vet today. The vet had a thorough listen of her heart, chest and throat- all was perfectly clear. She thinks the problem is her nose, the same as mallow. So its either viral or an allergen such as the hay. Its impossible to know if fudge is affected as she has heavy breathing due to fluid on the lungs. Just to use loxicom for a few days like i did with mallow and try and find the possible allergen cause. Guess I'm buying new hay!
