good news first, new 7ft hutch extension being collected on sunday, just need to figure a way to join the 2 :)) cant wait!

bad news, somehow either with the girls chewing the bars (more likely as they do this a lot) or boris pushing against them, they managed to drop the door section on the top of the indoor cage top i had boris in inside their run and i found him running around with them yesterday morning :( i immediately put him back in his bit and turned it around the way i normally put it with the door side against the outside of their run so it cant be dropped and nancy was lifting her little butt up to him to be sniffed (or licked :o ) and he was rumbling and strutting his stuff around her butt through the bars. I'm guessing this means she was probably in season :... cant believe it, i have no idea how long they were together for, could have been anywhere up to 5 hours, and hes only 2 weeks post neuter pow-pow

i immediately checked both girls, and their bits were messy, and their butt fur was wet and pennys was like stuck together in clumps. now I'm hoping it was where they had been spraying him with pee (although i didnt see any spraying yesterday or the day before through the bars like usual) and am desparately hoping it wasnt...erm...boris mess :x

i am so gutted, i bought a boar home and purposefully got him neutered at the earliest oportunity, used all the spare cash we had to do it, and now this just 2 weeks later. I'm really hoping that if he did in fact do the deed, that he is already sterile, but seriously what is the chances, he is 2 weeks post op as of today so 13 days post op when he got in with them.

the girls are only just 3 months old, if they are expecting minipigs, is this likely to cause any serious issues? their weights are nancy 675g and penny 700g.

the only time i didnt make sure the wire section was door to the outside and they do this, needless to say i have now made sure it goes to the outside every time mallethead

on a good note, saw boris popcorn around his hutch for the first time since we got him, so i guess he enjoyed his time with them no matter what happened rolleyes

oh no! that is the definition of irony right there. i dont really have any experience in this department, but i do know that boars can be fertile for a month after being neutered, so it seems like it could be a possibility. i also dont know how safe it is for sows to have babies at that age. this is just speculation, again hopefully somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but i think they are at a safe age...and it's much better for them to give birth when they are a little younger because their bones havent fused together yet.

hopefully your ladies arent expecting, but if they are theres no use beating yourself up about it, sounds like you took the precautions...i guess these things just happen! good luck :)

Ouch! You must be so upset! Piggies can be SOOOO very determined... and sows can spontaneously come into season when meeting a boar for the first time.

It's a toss up whether they have been caught out or not. The majority of boars is pretty much out of life ammunition from two weeks onwards, however there is still a significant proportion who aren't, so you will have to wait it out. By four weeks, you are about down to 95% safety, by five weeks to 99% (I have heard of only one verifiable case where a pregnancy has happened that late), by six weeks to 100%.

Please weigh your girls once weekly. Increased thirst and an increasing weight gain are usually the first signs. Also take a good look at their nipples now. A pregnant sow's nipples elongate and swell up during a pregnancy.

:o spontaneously come into season...great stuff :( i didnt know that. they have been meeting through the bars since before he was neutered, but that was the first time i saw little miss hussy nancy doing her best to entice him, usually its just a lot of bar chewing to try to get to each other. penny wasnt so fussed, but she was still bar chewing to get to him and pacing the length of his section.

i weigh them every few days now so il just start to keep proper tabs on weight gain, and I'm always checking them over every day for fly strike (proper paranoid about that :)) ) so i guess nipple checks are also in order. as for the increased thirst, they barely drink anything so any increase will be easily recognisable. its not like i havent dealt with minipigs before, but it was a long while back. i just wanted these girls to grow up and not go through all that :( fingers crossed they were little teases who didnt actually put out! i hope he was firing duds already if they did let him have his wicked way, will keep you all posted.

got the 2nd hutch, built exactly how i wanted it with a full mesh front so it can be used as a run area, going to buy toys and tunnels etc to go in here tomorrow, and will hopefully link the 2 hutches together tomorrow evening weather permitting :)) cant wait until they have tons of room to race about in.

quick question though...if boris did manage to get his wicked way with the girls, and they are expecting minipigs :( what size tunnel will i need between the 2 hutches for them when they get fat so they can still fit through it. i dont want them getting squished or stuck if they have been caught and are expecting. i noticed yesterday and today they have drunk a fair amount more than usual, maybe 3" of water from their bottle instead of the usual 1/2" or so...buuuuuuuut....they didnt get grass time yesterday so i figure (hope) they may have just drank more as they ate more pellets and hay than usual. how fast do these little changes take to show up if they have been impregnated?

god sods law is in it :( I hope they have not been caught please keep us updated I will keep my fingers crossed for your girls. Naughty men be it piggie or human they only have one thing on their mind.

rolleyes tell me about it, randy little sods! am planning on keeping everyone updated, no doubt if they are i will need help with new homes for some little ones. i know the hutch/run thing will be 14ft long but i wanted to really spoil the 3 pigs i have not fill it up :(
