Well we had our check up at the vets and Star has been discharged. With the progress she has made since Saturday's vet visit there is no need for more treatment. We just have to keep an eye on her.
The vets diagnosis was the cause of her paralysis in all 4 limbs (as it turned out) was either
a) Neurological
b) Stroke
c) "wrenched" neck for want of a better term.
As the anti-inflammatory injection resulted in the following change in 5 days -
from shuffling along on her tummy dragging back legs on floor, not able to right herself when pushed over; to being able to walk along (still a lot of bunny hops) and climbing into cage under her own steam, and lifting herself up for treats and trying to climb out of pet caddy.
As a result the vet discounted a) and b) and went with c). There was obviously something putting pressure on the spine chord in the neck although we had not seen any cause for an injury.
We are so happy, as on Saturday I was prepared to argue with the vet against having her PTS as she was eating fine and seemed herself. After the treatment and the discussion with our vet I am reassured by his treatment. (For Sport Billy the vet is Derek at the Sedgley branch of St Georges).
