They have been getting the Advanced nutrition wild harvest food that's what they were fed when I got them. But they just eat the treats and other stuff in it but never the actual pellets. Is that normal? Also it just seems like a big waste of money since 90% never gets eaten.

Is that a hamster/gerbil food? If so then it’s not the correct nutrients for them. They have different nutritional need

Piggies also shouldn’t eat muesli due to selective feeding and it also contains things they shouldn’t eat (seeds etc).

I would stop feeding it to them entirely and find a grass based pellet that you can give them. As pellets make up only 5% of their diet, there’s no harm in not feeding them for a while.

No its Guinea pig food. Also they have always free fed not sure If that would effect anything or not

You would be better with a complete pellet so that can't just pick out the bits they like best

No it’s not. I would stop feeding now. You need a grass based pellet and not a mix like that.

Pellets should be kept to a tablespoon for each piggy a day, not free fed. They’re the junk food of the piggy world and can also contribute to the amount of calcium in their diet. They also contain fillers.

I would highly recommend Oxbow brand pellets. They are fantastic and really great quality! :)

I didnt know I just rescued these two like two weeks ago. I've changed a lot because they nothing in their cage except cat litter and food and water the pellets have been the last things I've thought about:)

Oh dear. It’s a good thing you took them in then! Hay hay and more hay is the way to go.

Hello,

Well done for doing your research to find out the best way to look after your new furry friends :)

If you haven't already, I'd recommend having a read of the diet guide, here: Long Term Balanced General And Special Needs Guinea Pig Diets

As mentioned above, guinea pigs should be mainly eating hay, supplemented with safe veggies and a small amount of a good quality pellets like the Oxbow ones mentioned above. The guide has all the details!
