I have a pet shop near me that specialises in reptiles but also has a boarding service. I popped in to get some creepy crawlies for the lizards and noticed a guinea pig (not the norm for these guys!)
Obviously I had to get her out for a cuddle and a check over. Before diving in the guy warned me about her claws being overgrown and she's a bit dirty. Turns out, someone had taken her in to be looked after while they went away. Obviously this poor sow had been left with ridiculously long claws (I don't think they'd ever been trimmed), had never seen a pet wipe or bath and she was brought in a tiny cage with no hay (which was her permanent cage). The pet shop guy said that they would take the piggy but would not be returning her as she is so obviously mistreated.
She's now in a much bigger cage, has a mountain of hay and some veggies. I trimmed her nails down while I was in there and she was so still throughout, it's like she didn't notice. They gave me some free crickets and promised that they'd find her a good home (and a vet check up).
Nice to know they're not all bad :D

Well done, poor little girl. :(

Poor girly, I'm glad she has someone looking out for her now!

Some are nice. That's how we got one of our hedgehogs from a reptile shop someone had took her there and they got in touch with us as they had no idea about them. She had been bought for a four year old ! She was also in a tiny cage with the wrong diet we have had her about two years and she still hates been handled. She's not an easy girl but we love her.

The guys that have the reptile shop are awesome but they admittedly don't know a lot about piggies. I think they were a bit relieved that I offered to trim her 'talons' and was expecting a big song and dance about it as I usually get from the boys. So she's obviously been handled, just not had her needs met. It was so hard not to bring her home with me!
I'm happy that your little hedgehog got her happy ending :)

Oh the poor guinea but it does sound like they will try their best to get her a good home x

Wow what lovely stories. So glad the hedgehog found you! Poor little guinea, sounds like she is on the way to a better home. Poor little thing.

Wish I could help all the poor Piggys!
It seems people forget that they have feelings too:(
Well done to you!:D
