The vet gave him a light anasthetic and checked his mouth while his teeth were slightly overgrown they weren't so badly overgrown as to cause him to give him significant problems so the feeling was that something else was at play which had caused him to go off his food causing his teeth to over grow.
On checking him over they could find nothing major internally wrong such however when they touched around his kidneys he kicked out his back legs suggesting that he was in pain. They couldn't feel any stones or any other untoward in his stomach so they are querying that he has injuried his back which is causing him pain and thus stopped him eating and caused his teeth problerms. I explained his behaviour at meal times and this is consistent with the injury to the area where he is experiencing pain so he has been given regular pain relief and I've been told to keep a really close eye on him and any more concerns I have to get him straight over to the vets if no more concerns they will see him again next Thursday.
