In the early hours of this morning one of my pigs Beatrice passed away.
She had a stroke late on Wednesday and we immediately took her to the vets who told us to keep her warm, comfortable and hope for the best. After syringe feeding her throughout that night and Thursday, she passed away after suffering another stroke on Thursday night.
She died between 1am and 6am in her favourite spot next to the radiator. Her sister-pigs were with her.
Today I held her little body in my arms for a while and placed her in the grave I had dug in the garden. I wrapped her in her favourite fleece and kissed her goodbye.
Goodbye Beatrice pig.

I am very sorry; you have done all you could for Beatrice!

RIP Beatrice - rest snuggly and keep guard over your sisters!

Thank you all for your kind comments.
I am devastated - Beatrice was only ~2.5 years old. She has passed far too soon and far too suddenly.

RIP Beatrice

so sorry ,i know exactly how you feel i buried my little Dumpling yesterday. Totally unexpected he was 3 years and 4 months .i miss him so much

I am so sorry about Dumpling, Luvleeju.
Today has been incredibly tough. Although I am trying to be positive because of Christmas, I have cried so many tears for Beatrice and missed her terribly.
She had such a funny little personality. She was both the boss and the best friend of her sisters - keeping them in line but always affectionate and sweet natured towards them. She was always looking for mischief - escaping during floor time, chewing *everything* in sight, chasing around the run in the summer and wheeking her head off whenever she saw us picking her dandelions to eat!...
Today I placed a lantern where she is buried and lit a candle inside.
Thank you so much for your support. I'm sure many of you understand how hurtful the phrase "But its just a guinea pig..." is and I am so glad you are here with your words of kindness to buffer those comments.
We invite these small and wonderful animals in to our homes and hearts - their size is no boundary for the love we have for them.
