Guinea Slave
Adult Guinea Pig
So I am still shocked I am actually typing this. From a healthy feisty girl four weeks ago to the realisation that she is no longer here is so hard.
This is Bella: (the larger guinea one on the right)

Her a week before she passed away:

Her with Titch and Biscuit (Biscuit who passed away last year, brown and white)

When I first saw Bella it was at the rescue centre. We had selected two guineas (two baby sisters Titch and Biscuit) and I just happened to walk by one of the numerous cages and skulking in the back was a beautiful black girl. I dived in and picked her up and it was love at first sight! I was so pleased when Anna said she was available. However, apparently she had not been recommended as she had been very aggressive to some baby guineas and Anna was very cautious about whether she would be ok with Biscuit and Titch.
I had bought my remaining herd of three over, so we put all six together and they bonded straight away. No bickering, no fighting just all peace and quiet. And thats how it was. Bella was the matriarch and paired up with Sebastian and the two kept the others all in check.
We called Bella 'posh',she was very pretty but very aloof. She had a lot of contempt for human beings and was not fussed about human company. However this changed over time and she loved just sitting on my shoulder and falling asleep under my hair for hours on end! She never bickered with the others, was always polite, she would NEVER, EVER poop or pee on someone, that was disgusting in her mind! She never wheeked for her food (she had slaves to do that for her) but she would mutter away to herself when I was cleaning them out or she was searching for food. She did 'let her guard fall' when in the indoor cage, at feed time she would occasionally bring herself down a level and put her paws on the side of the cage and nose up for food
Her last few days were very sad as she just ebbed away through an unknown cause. My last memory of her was walking around the garden with her in the sun shine feeding her grass. She was clearly enjoying the warmth on her face and sniffing the air. I put her on the side in the shed and held her head between my hands and she kissed my nose. She was never touchy feelie and I think this was her way of saying 'dont worry mum, I know you love me'. Its a memory which will stay with me forever.
There are loads of tales to tell about her but this is so hard. I will try and dig out some more photos. But I wanted to share her with you.
Goodbye my darling Bella, you were a true friend and will have a special place in my heart forever. Say hello to everyone for me in piggy heaven. xxxxxxx
