Adult Guinea Pig
I'm sad to say my gorgeous girl Matilda passed away yesterday morning, she was only 2 1/2 years old.
I adopted her from The Wheek and Squeak rescue in May 2011 as a wife for Hector. Hector met 8 sows and finally settled on Matilda. She was a very special girl.
She was my first sow and was such a character. Straight away she worked out how to get under the fleece bedding and made sure she taught Hector how to as well. She really tested my ability to make things Matilda proof!
Matilda's lived with quite a few pigs since living with me. Piglet moved in with Matilda and Hector in February this year. Hector passed away in April then Amelia moved in in June. The three girls got on well but were prone to the odd squabble so Ash moved in this October to take charge of his little herd. Finally Penny moved in 3 weeks ago after her husboar Gerry passed away.
Matilda's had lots of friends, she's always been a low ranking sow but was clearly loved by her housemates. Amelia was particularly good with her especially over this last week as she became poorlier. Amelia would snuggle up with her and groom her, mothering her. I chose Amelia to be with her at the end when she was put to sleep. She had become very thin and eventually refused to eat. She had a tumour which eventually caught up with her and over the last week she started to look poorly so I couldn't let her suffer.
Popcorn free little Tilda. Go and find Hector and Piglet at the Bridge and a big pile of fleece to play in. I'll really miss my little girl. x
