MommaPiggy
Adult Guinea Pig
About a week ago now, my poor little Ralph passed away.
He had been poorly for a few months but there was nothing I could do for him.
It all started when I found a lump on his side. I took him to the vets and had it removed.
The cheeky little piggy...He pulled his stitches out that night and had be taken back and stitched back up again the next day.
About 2 weeks later, I took him back for a check up (After going back the week before to have the stitches removed) and the vet had alerted me to his weight loss and we were both a little baffled because he had been eating as normal.
Ralph carried on eating as normal....But carried on losing weight, too.
After trying everything the vet had suggested....In the end it came down to X-rays but Ralph was so small by this time that I decided I didn't want to put him through it. I didn't believe he was strong enough...
I made the decision to let him carry on for as long as he was happy. He was popcorning around, eating and acting like his usual self...
And then one morning I noticed he was just laying there. His eyes closed over. He tried to come to me when he saw me leaning over the cage but he didn't have the strength to move...
I took him to the vets an hour later and said my goodbyes.
The vet then told me that he could feel "abnormalities" inside of Ralph...
The fact that I was able to hold him in my arms as he passed was a great comfort to me.
And the fact that after the vet gave him the injection...My little Ralphy pig came wobbling across the table to me and burried his head in my arms...Meant more to me than he'll ever understand.
In his final moments, I was his safe place...And I knew then that I had given him everything he had ever needed.
Goodbye my little darling. I will never forget you.
You've left your paw prints all over my heart and they will never fade.
