Pepper, one of my beautiful guinea pigs, died today 8...
June 2006? - 1st October 2008

I got him and Beauty on the 26th December 2006, after months of research we finally went ahead and got them from an advert in our local Free Ads. We were told they were six months old (then again, we were also told they were girls...) but they haven't grown since then, so really they could have been older, or the previous owners could have been right - I don't know.

Pepper was always the shyer one, but over the past year or so he has improved so much and became a lovely little piggy, especially when you had food of course!

On Monday night I noticed he didn't seem himself, he seemed a bit off colour but I thought maybe it was just something he'd eaten or he was just feeling tired etc. However, yesterday I knew he'd be leaving us soon :( He wasn't moving much and didn't really do much but he didn't seem in pain and he seemed comfortable. He was warm, comfortable, food and water near him and a friend near by, so we left him for the night.

This morning he was still fighting but it was obvious he wouldn't last much longer. I gave him a little cuddle and he just seemed ready to give up.

When I got home from school he had passed away :(

I don't know what to think - if was kind of expected because he'd gone downhill yesterday, but before Monday he was a lively, happy guinea pig who was enjoying life and there seemed to be nothing wrong, I have no idea why this happened :( It was like seeing an old guinea pig slipping away really.

Pepper, I love you so much and I'm sorry you had to go :( I hope you enjoyed the few years we had together, I know I did. I'm sorry if this was something we did wrong, we tried our hardest for you.

Run free darling, I'm sure Beauty will miss you - he already looks confused. I hope you find some nice piggy friends at the bridge xx

We definitely had a good bond.. (picture was after a bath lol)

Aww I'm sorry Jane. I was only thinking of your two yesterday as well. Pepper was lovely. Perhaps he was older than you thought, but even youngish pigs at around 3 can pass over because of old age. Its just when it is their time.

Thinking of you. x

ah Jane i am so sorry to hear about Pepper.

Sending you hugs.

Rest in peace Pepper xxxxx

I'm so sorry to hear about Pepper

Run free little one xoxoxoxo

Sending you hugs xx

I'm so sorry Jane, Pepper was gorgeous! Lou is right, he may well have been older. I was told Lennie was 6 months but soon realised he must be older. Maryh reckoned he was more like 4-5 years old when she looked after my pigs in February.

Run free Pepper x

Aw, I'm so sorry to hear about Pepper. Don't worry Jane, you didn't do anything wrong, it was clearly just time. You can tell how much you loved him and he would have known that. I'm sure he felt really snug and secure when he went. My thoughts are with you. Alex x

I'm sorry to hear about Pepper. R.I.P Pepper, may your soul find it's way to heaven as fast as possible. I'm sure you didn't do anything wrong, He might have been just an old pig. From that picture I am positive he loved you more than anyone. :)

I'm so very sorry for your loss of Pepper, such a lovely looking piggie. He will've known just how much you loved him, and it sounds like he passed gently. Considering their small size, they leave huge holes in our hearts when they go.

Jane, I'm so sorry, I missed this thread when it was first up, I haven't been able to get on much, but I'm so very sorry about Pepper. What an incredibly handsome little chap he was, and his colourings are one of my favourites, what a gorgeous little man.

I completely agree with SueG, such tiny creatures with huge hearts leave huge holes indeed.

RIP Pepper xx
