Hi everyone.
I previously posted about my pig when he was sick and I was seeking advice on what to do. Unfortunately after a trip to the vet and some medications that were supposed to make him better he just gave up. He passed this morning. I’m completely heartbroken and I’m going to miss him more than anything. I truly hope he is happy and feeling better wherever he may be ❤️57865546-DFDC-4647-83A1-37893C887AEB.webp

Thank you.
I have another guinea pig named Chip and they have been separated for about three weeks now (ever since Timmy started showing signs of being sick I separated them in fear of my other pig getting sick as well). I've read that it is good to let them say goodbye to the body so they could grieve and that is something I'd like to do, I'm just concerned. If Timmy had a contagious sickness could Chip get sick as well?
What should I do?

Well me and my husband suspected an infection since he had crusty eyes. When we took him to the emergency room we called ahead and asked if they would be able to diagnose AND treat him and they said yes. At the end of the visit they gave us medication, liquid food to give him nutrients since he was eating less and eye drops for the crust. They also told us they were unable to diagnose him because he would need to see a specialist. I informed them I would not be able to take him that same week and they assured me the medication should help and that I should take him the following week.
So I never really knew what he had. I had an appointment scheduled for today but he passed before we could go.
Do you think Chip has a chance of getting sick if I put them together?

Sorry for your loss. You did all you could by signing up here and getting advice. You should stay on the forum it will help with your pig you have left so so much. Try find a specialist vet ready incase your other pig gets sick in the future. Get registered there.

Thank you, so would you recommend letting my other pig see the body to say goodbye or should I not?

I would personally. I did with my old pigs, and my gerbils whenever one was put to sleep. But i dont know if it helps or not
Dont keep the body too long, i had to once and it started to smell. Because i got put on a long shift the day i wanted to bury him. Was so angry

I allowed Chip to see the body for a few minutes last night, he did not really react to he just smelled him.
I took Timmy to get cremated today and should have him back in a few days.
Thank you everyone for your condolences.

I am so sorry for the loss of your handsome piggy, he obviously had an amazing life with you and Chip.

Sleep well little one

RIP Timmy
