As you may know Darwin was my aby/peruvian cross that hated me...well not just me absolutely everyone...except my best friend...for some reason she was the only human he ever let cuddle and stroke him.

I found him in the cosy home yesterday afternoon which was odd in itself as it left him exposed to me and he couldn't hide and just stick his nose out and glare at me which was normal, and he let me stroke him which let me know something was up - I lifted him out and it was obvious something was wrong

I took him down to the vet nurse that lives at the bottom of the road and she thought we could save him, I was syringe feeding him every hour and he seemed to be taking it, and I wrapped a hot water bottle in a fleece blanket to keep him warm which also seemed to be working.

At 8.45 he started what looked like fits and I sent Cia down to get Emma, she came up and said she didn't think he was going to make it.

Darwin passed away at 9pm .

The only time I could give my little guy cuddles and strokes was when he was ill and just after he passed and it's breaking my heart especially as we lost Bugsy not so long back.

Emma is taking the other three to her practice today to get them checked over and to get some antibiotics in case it is a virus. But she thinks its down to the crappy conditions he was in before I got him.

So now he is with Bugsy (someone else he hated) and together they can run free.

I am getting there slowly...have spent today breaking down, bleaching and disinfecting the cages, toys...basically if it sat still long enough it got bleached, washed down with soapy water and then disinfected or went in the washing machine on the hotest wash I could find.

News from the vets is good - the other three are all fine and didn't need any shots or treatment...although something unusual did crop up...Cadbury my little ginger rescue piggie is not a boy! Cadbury is apparently a girl and I think I am more than lucky not to have baby piggies as she has been living with boys since I got her (I was assured she was a boy when I rescued her and to be honest it never occured to me to double check).

Although a little part of me now hopes that she might be expecting as we could end up with a ginger Darwin type baby...

Aww, bless...sweet dreams Darwin and special thoughts from your long lost brother.
I'm so glad that all your others are ok, good luck with Cadbury.

Hope you are ok :)

Sorry for your loss - we lost Biscuit today, I know how you're feeling right now.

Just a little update... the boys (and yes they are all boys...even Cadbury!) are back home with a clean bill of health from the vet...although I have been advised they are a little overweight but not enough to be a problem. The vet said they are "average" piggies, but they are happy, healthy piggies but I do need to put them on a bit of a diet...

Darwin's post mortem examination has revealed that it was some sort of parasitic infection...e culin something or another...something he would have had since he was a baby and just one of those horrible, horrible things.

As for Mr Cadbury...when the vet checked, Emma checked and they were convinced he was a she...Emma showed me the difference when she dropped them back here and all of a sudden Cadbury had a winky...he had been hiding it so hence them thinking he was a Miss Cadbury.

I am so sorry for your loss too...it's a horrible, horrible feeling...I went into the dining room just now which is home to Cadbury and Fudge...and I always say hello Darwin when I go in there to give him time to run for cover and I had to stop myself because he isn't there anymore...Cadbury was sat on top of the pigloo...his favourite way to see what he is missing but it wasn't the same without seeing the flurry of sawdust where Darwin was making a run for it away from the evil Jess :(
