Senior Guinea Pig
Sadly we unexpectedly lost beautiful Ivory over night, I went in in the morning to find she had fallen where she stood, while eating, clearly from very sudden heart failure
Ivory came to us a skittish and shy youngster, who when partnered with the equally skittish Shellybean, formed a firm bond of friendship and guidance, and with each other by their sides, they both came out of their shells. Even more so when they were put into a herd with some of our other guinea pigs. Ivory got along with pretty much everybody, even Treacle..who was notoriously difficult to bond with other piggies. She especially loved to be surrounded by the little youngsters.
She was a true gentle giant, who bonded particularly strongly with her nemesis Delilah, the 2 were like sisters, bickering one minute, inseparable the next. Poor Ivory was brachycephalic, her skull was misshapen which caused narrow airways, because of this moving around was quite tiring for her, and in the end most likely caused the strain on her heart that was the cause of her passing.
Ivory was part of the glue that held the herd together, although Shelly and Delilah are currently keeping everyone in order. She will be greatly missed and leaves a huge piggy shaped hole in the room and herd.
She passed as she lived, with a mouthful of food, which is a comfort that she would have had no idea what happened, she would have just gone.
