Sadly we unexpectedly lost beautiful Ivory over night, I went in in the morning to find she had fallen where she stood, while eating, clearly from very sudden heart failure :(

Ivory came to us a skittish and shy youngster, who when partnered with the equally skittish Shellybean, formed a firm bond of friendship and guidance, and with each other by their sides, they both came out of their shells. Even more so when they were put into a herd with some of our other guinea pigs. Ivory got along with pretty much everybody, even Treacle..who was notoriously difficult to bond with other piggies. She especially loved to be surrounded by the little youngsters.

She was a true gentle giant, who bonded particularly strongly with her nemesis Delilah, the 2 were like sisters, bickering one minute, inseparable the next. Poor Ivory was brachycephalic, her skull was misshapen which caused narrow airways, because of this moving around was quite tiring for her, and in the end most likely caused the strain on her heart that was the cause of her passing.
Ivory was part of the glue that held the herd together, although Shelly and Delilah are currently keeping everyone in order. She will be greatly missed and leaves a huge piggy shaped hole in the room and herd.
She passed as she lived, with a mouthful of food, which is a comfort that she would have had no idea what happened, she would have just gone.

What a beautiful touching tribute to your wonderful piggie. It must have been such a terrible shock to find her but it will be hopefully a comfort to you that she would have gone to the Bridge doing what she liked best - eating. Take care of yourself and the piggies. Sleep tight pretty girl xx

Thankyou all so much. It is a comfort that she passed quickly, and that after an afternoon of grieving, the herd has returned to business as usual. I was concerned with Shelly with her Osteodystrophy and Delilah not long after having surgery that it may cause some to go downhill but so far that is thankfully not the case.
I'm still sad I didn't get to say goodbye, but I did at least get to say goodnight, as I always do before putting their lights off for the night.

I’m very sorry for your loss. Take heart in the fact she ‘found her place’ with you 💓
