Guinea Slave
Adult Guinea Pig
I lost Lacey 8 weeks ago but couldn't bring myself to do a tribute to her. Sadly I had to let her husboar Sebastian go yesterday after he suffered kidney failure. They absolutely adored each other so in tribute to them both...
Sebastian and Lacey came as a group from a rescue (Wheek and Squeak) Seb was a bottom of the garden hutch pig and Lacey and her sister Cagney were unwanted babies. Seb and Lacey bonded from day one.
Seb was always incredibly healthy and very opinionated from day one, never was ill and he was six and a half when he left us. He was an incredible character, loved bossing the girls around and more than anything loved food. Over time he grew to love cuddles and his speciality was kissing me on the cheek if he wanted something. He even house trained himself, never made a mess and used to follow us around the house...zoomies around the sofa was his favourite pastime. After his ambivalence to humans he grew to trust and love us and became a very dear friend, we will miss him terribly.
Lacey was amazing, she had calcium deposits in her eyes which resulted in her losing an eye and ultimately going blind. She had lumps removed and a bad heart but still she carried on, again dying when she was just over 6 a short while ago. Another character she was adept at making lovely little round nests in the hay..I kid you not! But her party piece was an amazing ninja kick she did when she felt threatened. We saw it the first time when she recovered from her eye removal, we let her friend join her for company and she leapt skyward, totally vertical, kicking forward with her back legs...hilarious and very effective. Needless to say we removed said friend and replaced her with her true love Seb.
Seb and her were my last remaining of the old herd. He guided her around the cage and they cuddled together every day. It was beautiful to see and a real insight into how guineas will support each other. the day she died he was so so upset, he pined desperately and I swear the shock brought on the renal failure ultimately. I have never seen such a sad piggy.
He became a house pig when for a week and then we took him to Hazlecroft where he surprised us by selecting 3 beautiful girls who again all adored him and he them...he was clearly one for the ladies!
I could bore you all with so many stories but to finish, I just wanted to say what a wonderful pair you were, you lit up our days every day, you made us laugh, you made us cry and you showed us love that only guineas can do. We will miss you terribly and a little piece of our hearts have broken away to join you. Sleep well my angels. x
Sebastian's cheeky face:
Asleep with his wife pig Lacey...a typical position

Finally meeting his new lady friends....he looked so proud!
