Pooky pig was rescued 2 1/2 years ago from a gumtree add when he was 1 year old, along with his brother. He immediately made himself know as the alpha and scared of nothing. He wasn't afraid to nudge you out the way with his head if you or anything else was in his way, nip your skin if he'd had enough, fling himself off the sofa (or try to) or wrestle like a hulk pig if you tried to cut his nails (gloves were needed!).
He was the cheekyest of pigs, but so loyal, and caring, and once you became part of his herd he was a softy. He loved his head strokes. And he would have protected his brother to the end of the earth, always giving him kisses on his face, and worried when not in sight. We were a herd of 4, 2 humans and 2 pigs. We loved each other so much.
In January, the dental problems started. We saved him from deaths door by taking him to Simon in Northampton who saved him and gave him dentals a every 3 weeks for the next 6 months. But the last dental didn't seem to help much, and neither did the next. 48 hours from his last vet visit he'd passed. He died on our way to the emergency vet, 12 hours before an appointment with Simon. He was surronded by all his herd in those last painful minutes, being snuggled by his brother and smoothed by me.
I feel I could have done more to keep you going for a bit longer. I'm sorry I failed you. I'm sorry your last days were in pain. I'm sorry.
Simon the vet called him a cheeky little monster for the amount he fought back, and that he'd only met a couple of pigs like him. He was one of a kind. I'll never find another pig like you.
My heart is bleeding, and my world has gotten darker. You'll be in my thoughts forever. Sleep tight my little brown pig. We're are going to miss you so much. I love you.
