Smudge 01.07.05 to 16.01.12
We had to make the heart breaking decision to let our gorgeous girlie Smudge go to Rainbow Bridge yesterday after. She was a dear old girl who had been with us since she was a baby. For the past few years she had suffered with persistent bladder sludge/stones which with the help of our fantastic vet Nicola, we were able to remove without the need for surgery. Smudgy was a favourite at the vets, all the nurses knew and loved her.
She had been well for some months, but sadly last Thursday she started to pass small amounts of blood and was obviously in some discomfort. We started up all her usual meds and she seemed to be coping ok. Yesterday morning was a different story and it quickly became obvious that she had had enough. We had lots of lovely cuddles, she took a little critical care from me but really wasn't interested in even her favourite veggies. By the afternoon she was sitting fluffed up on a heat pad, with her head tucked into the corner of her cage and she didn't even want her mum Bella anywhere near her - never a good sign.
Later in the afternoon we went to see Nicola and after a thorough exam and a lenghty chat we both agreed it would be kindest to help Smudge make her final journey:0 We were all in tears, but Smudgy couldn't have had a better life, she was surrounded by piggy friends, loved unconditionally by us all and was such a stoical little piggy - she will be sadly missed by us all.
Sleep well Smudgy until we all meet again. x
Doing what she loved most!x)
