I posted this in the Introductions section, but I'm not sure if that's the right place, so posting it here too.

Okay, we got Marshmallow a friend today! Please don't hate me for getting from a pet store, but it was either that or none, since I have not found anything in our area at all! We chose not to quarantine (please don't hate me for that either). One of the reasons for that is that we've only had Marshmallow for a week and we didn't want her to become even more territorial of her space. Since we got them from the same place, they likely have already been exposed to the same germs. So we introduced them in a neutral area for at least an hour and a half, and they seemed to be doing well. The new little gal is a bit smaller than our Marshmallow, by the way. They kind of sniffed each others' rears, sniffed noses, followed each other, etc. The little one was doing some popcorning. During this time, we completely cleaned out the 2x4 cage and rearranged things a bit. Then we put them in together. I guess I'm just wondering...how long before we know if they will "bond" appropriately? There has been no rumblestrutting, "go away" sounds, or severe aggressiveness. The main thing I've noticed is Marshmallow once took a piece of hay out the newbie's mouth. And then a few times the "baby" has cried out when Marshmallow doesn't want her in the same hidey. I can't see if she's nipping at her or not, but I have not noticed any signs of injury. Anyway, just wondering...what can I look for or expect? Thank you for being supportive in finding a friend!

This thread here contains a lot of useful information, some of which may help http://theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=38561

Thanks Amanda! I forgot that someone else had pointed out that thread. I went back and read all the way through it last night, which was very helpful! Still nothing "major" going on between the two piggies. Marshmallow seemed to eat more yesterday/last night as well, which is good! She likes to run in circles around her cage, but I think she's irritated that the little one keeps getting in her way. She keeps running into her!

Here they are sharing some veggies:

Thank you! We'll make sure to confirm that they are both girlies! As I've observed them, the little one does keep crying out here and there, but I don't think Marshmallow is nipping her. I think just pushing her. I couldn't believe how much hay they've been going through! I guess it's probably more normal, whereas Marshmallow probably wasn't eating as much as she should before! They even try to drink from the water bottle at the same time.

The loud crying you probably hear is your little one (does she have a name yet?) saying 'please don't hurt me, I submit/I'm no threat.' We've had this with my girls when my submissive pig challenged the dominant one. You have nothing to be worried about unless something major kicks off, which you will definitely know about!

Your girls sound like they are doing well. My dominant piggie still rumbles at the little one, and little one still cries. But they love each other x)

Thank you everyone for your encouragement to get another piggy! So far Marshmallow and Ruby seem to be getting along very well! I've now seen what the rumbling/strutting, mounting, etc. is (on a video) and none of that has happened. I do think I saw Marshmallow drag her bottom on the cage a couple of times (marking territory?). Marshmallow is just such a friendly little thing (from the beginning), while Ruby is still a very shy girl.
