meet Wailani! She is very scared as she was just separated from her mother and 1 year old baby they were adopted by another family but at least all three girls are with better homes. The woman surrendering them told me I could breed her if I wanted!:blink:she is in her own cage for now as I am also worried of ringworm as her skin is very flaky! I will also add she is the biggest guinea pig I have ever seen! Hopefully the vet can get her in for a check this week!

Ooooooh what a sweetheart! Glad she's found a new home with you, and hope the ringworm issue clears up soon!

Thanks everyone! I’m hoping the skin issues aren’t anything too bad! Last thing this piggy needs is some treatment when she is already scared!

Congratulations, yes please get her checked at a vets ASAP, the earlier you catch any fungal infection the better

Take a read of this for more info on hygiene measures to put in place Ringworm: Hygiene And Pictures

She is an absolute stunner.
I love black piggies and you got some good pictures of her - black piggies are so hard to photograph I think.

Thanks everyone! Just called my vet (she goes oh no what now?!) and she will be seeing Wailani tomorrow!

What does she weigh? or is she too scared to be weighed yet? She does look a big girl! My neighbours used to breed piggies and they had a huge piggy called Badger. I never actually saw him but they said they called him Badger cos he was so big!

Not sure her weight yet and I haven’t put her through the trauma of my tiny kitchen scale yet! I was just going to wait til tomorrow to weigh her at the vets!

Good idea! Good luck at the vets tomorrow. I hope she won't be too traumatised with yet another new setting and I truly hope she doesn't have the dreaded ringworm!

Thanks me too! She has had a hard couple days she doesn’t need anymore stress!

Bless her
She's luckily to have found you :)
Although it's not very nice to have to treat new, skittish Guineas it can make for a beautiful relationship down the road,
Some of my most loving guinea pigs started so scared and had to be treated for various things,
Silver lining I suppose :) I think they sometimes realise you helped them feel a lot better in those first few weeks and they remeber it :) :)

Agreed! What made me get her was I didn’t want to leave her there and thinking of Wiley (piggy I recently lost :,( )who was from a hoarding situation with lice and potential pregnant (luckily she wasn’t!). She was so dirty and scared but she blossomed into an amazing pig!

Don’t worry. It’s a rare piggy that isn’t at least somewhat nervous in a new environment.

Thanks everyone! Fantastic news today! They think the skin issues are just from scratching or the other piggies she was with biting her no signs of fungus or mites! She was so calm and easy for them to examine. They found her back teeth were a little long and think she probably wasn’t getting enough Hay and should resolve with her new diet. Oh and she weighed in at a large 2.78 pounds!

That's good news and what a good weight! So just a couple of weeks in quarantine then before the introductions. Hope they go well.

Yep that is the plan! I think Winona is excited she will occasionally hear Wailani and start squeaking! And Winona is not a very squeaky pig so it’s a big deal!

Well that sounds promising. Can they see each other? or are they in separate rooms? Never had to quarantine piggies before so not sure how it works!

I have them in the same room but spread out so they can’t have contact. Idk that they can see each other but I have caught Winona trying to see wailani and they are definitely aware of each other with the squeaking and all! Also Wailani originally was hiding in a far corner from Winona but has since moved as close as possible to her
