I have recently asked Fi about keeping the guineas we are currently fostering. They have grown really attached to me and vice versa. They have really started to come out of their shell since coming inside and are beginning to act really quite normally, first just around me but the last 2 days around the whole family. They don't always run away any more and yesterday neither of them shook when being held.

Anyway I got them a 120cm long cage but Fi has said it is a bit small for them as is. No way can we afford to get another cage after Cy has been made redundant but we have used stuff we already had here - grids and coroplast and given it an upstairs sleeping pad! So what do you think?

I know my photos aren't the best but I am so chuffed. The correx box upstairs just slots in and out for cleaning, the ramp is fully closed off so they can't possible fall off and it's a low floor anyway so its very gentle and not steep. I have lined upstairs with vetbed and put 2 corner houses in there (not in the photo) and they LOVE it! Seriously they went straight up there and have been going up and down like crazy ever since.

They have so much more room downstairs now and can charge about full speed when it's veggies time.

I have for the time being draped a bit of vetbed over the bars upstairs to give added privace while they get used to it being a sleeping quarters but they seemed to have sussed that already.

So what do you think?

I think it's lovely! a really fantastic idea =D
got to admit it's not as lovely as the piggys tho hehe

oh that is a brilliant idea well done you :) oooh maybe one day il add an extra level to my cage.
and its great that you decided to keep the piggies they look so happy

That looks fab. The piggies will have great fun running up and down the ramp. Well done you!

It looks great and the piggies look really happy. I've got the same cage and I've added an extra level too. It's a very practical solution to add a bit space :)

Thank you so much everyone for your comments - it means so much to me that they are happy and that we get to keep them. I have been putting a blog together about their progress if anyone wants to read about them and how well they have come on

Cage adjustment not on there just yet, going to add it tomorrow

Lisa,

I really like what you have done. It does look fab. As long as it provides a minimum of 8.5sq ft then I am happy.

I know that you have done an amazing job

Just read the blog. Signed up as a follower. Looking forward to hearing more about their progress..

Thanks! I have been nervous about anyone else reading my blog - a bit like reading my diary but i've decided to be braver. Glad to have a follower!

Thanks Fi that's made me really happy :). I like to think they are happy, they are starting to seem happy. It's defnitely at least that many square feet I got Cy to measure it all up this morning so we're there. I like them having a snug upstairs too it's all warm and cosy ready for winter. :))

I was beginning to think that you would end up adopting your foster piggies, not sure why but i got that feeling, it was really hard giving tango back to fi for the second time and i am sure fi feels like i am still keeping tabs on him as i keep ringing up to ask how he is before asking how she is! I am glad that they have such a good home, and i am sure they will be very happy confident piggies soon!

Thanks Hun. I know you were the same weren't you? I am sure I am able to do fostering but not this time hee hee. The thing that swung it for me and made me pretty sure i'd keep them was when we had them on the sofa me on one side and hubby on the other and they both ran over to me and snuggled in for protection, I was so honoured that they saw me like that and thought about them going to someone else and going through that whole scared thing again and just couldn't do it.
