Hello

Just wondering whether there was any such thing? I know a lot of people cut their own guinea pig's hair but I struggle to do it really well on my own. Willy is peruvian and his hair seems to grow at the speed of light. I brush him regularly but it gets so long and as it's so thick it takes ages to cut. Just wondering if there was anything that could trim him/thin his hair with clippers. His hair's in good condition just so long and thick and gets in the way!

All of my boys have short hair so I can't even offer any tips for you. Just a thought though, do you live near any rescues? Perhaps someone there could show you, or do if for you, in return for a small donation? I know that some rescues near me will help with nail cutting and a few other things if asked

I have long haired Guinea pigs, I have the lady from our local rescue come round. She's great, she baths them, does there grease glands, ears, blow dry, clips there nails. balm for there paws, flea treatment and a check over, very pampered pigs in this house lol.

I need to cut one of my piggies hair at the back every couple weeks to keep it from dragging behind. Its crazy how quick it grows ! And lots of brushing !

Oh yes these long haired pigs are only for the dedicated! I never intended on having one, but ended up with him! Wouldn't change him for the world though.

I never intended on having long haired either, I was a guinea pig novice when I got them ! His hair was thick and a bit curly when I got him but still quite short as he was young, but I had no idea what he'd grow into ha ha, just thought he looked cute, still does btw, but what a nightmare sometimes, its now really thick and curly and there is just masses of it !
My other pig has long hair but silky and never get tangled, he's no trouble.

They should come with a warning lol, luckily I work from home so I can always make time for them :) :)

Oh I feel your pain! We currently have 6 long haired piggies, some are very good about being groomed, others run a mile when they see me coming with a brush! We have a mixture of shelties, coronets, peru crosses and swiss so all very different. We offer a wash and brush up service as part of our rescue/boarding so I'm often asked by visitors and returning adopters to 'sort out' their piggies:) - just love it.

My Latte is long haired and I give her a little combing every couple of days, which she complains about, but even though she looks messy, she doesn't get very tangled, thank goodness.

I must be mad but i have mainly long haired boys currently got 5 including Peruvian and Lunkayra :)) I just give them a good comb and then trim as and when necessary, my rescue peruvians had had their hair cut when i got them so i just keep on top of it. I agree try asking a local rescue they might be able to help or maybe find someone who shows guinea pigs in your area they too might be able to help :)

I have a lunkarya too and a coronet. Flin is the coronet and he doesnt mind me trimming him but winston, my lunkarya freaks big time if you touch him with a brush and the more you try the worse he gets so I distract him with food and snip like a crazy person! I find if I do it once a month that keeps on top of it. A girl I know on here is a dog groomer and she came to mine and groomed them once, showed me how to trim them etc might be worth seeing if someone local would do something similar :)

Thanks for the advice will have a look around! Gave him a brush and cut recently so he's not bad atm. He seems so happy when I cut his fringe, must be frustrating him having to flick his hair to see when it's long!
