Hi

My piggie has a fungus on his nose, as described in another thread...but today I noticed he has one red and weepy eye. I've looked inside and cant see owt.

He's been so good, letting me bathe his nose, give him meds and then bathe his eye, poor thing.

My vet is useless, told me the fungus wasnt fungus was a bite and that she couldnt recommend anything. Only was it when I pushed for it that she gave me anything at all. So, needless to say, I am reluctant to take him back to her. We had a cat with a bad leg, she said she couldnt see anything wrong and gave us a bottle of metacam. we were back less than a week later with a big gaping absess. We've not had the pigs long, my birthday present :( help

I can sympathise, I am sorry you're going through this without having a vet you can trust.

Whereabouts are you? Someone here may know of a decent vet or even rodentologist in your area who could help.

What meds is he on for the fungal patch on his face? Do you feel that the cream/whatever you are treating the fungal patch with could have gone into his eye? Is his eye cloudy, or is he holding it closed at all?

I dont think the wash could have gone into his eye. Its watered down and I use a cotton pad to bathe his nose and I dont put him back in the hutch until its dried off. The wash type stuff is called Imaverol. I was told to dilute 1ml into 50ml of water and repeat every 3rd day on 4 occasions..I've ordered some stuff from gorgeous guineas. Lavender and Myrrh lotion for the nose too.

As for the eye, I've bathed it with cooled boiled water and its already looking better, for now. Hes keeping it mostly closed, top lid looks swollen. When hes on my lap having cuddles he half closes his eyes usually, but today the poorly eye was shut completely.

Vet also gave us baytril 0.2ml daily for 7days.

We are based in wednesbury, west mids. Just off junction 9 (by ikea is how people usually know it)
