Gpig vet survey!

Well I thought it was an interesting survey but I can't answer it because I never take any of my animals into the waiting room! Especially after the whole Covid puppy buyers thing, the waiting rooms are chaos, full of people who make no attempt to control their dogs, allowing them to pester other dogs and people with small pets in carriers. Never mind allowing their dogs who might have goodness knows what, to shove their noses into other dogs. who may well as a result come out sicker than when they went in!
I wait in the room minus animal, and rush whatever it is through the melee once I am called. I have heard about surgeries who have separate areas for small animals and I though what a good idea that was, until I was told that the same entitled idiots will still let their dog run into that area "because it wants to see the pets".

Done

The exotics have a separate waiting area at our vets. There's usually only one vet running a clinic at a time so there's very rarely anyone else waiting at the same time. I would hate to have to sit in a room with noisy dogs.

Done. My vets only is a very small Practice an there are only 4 seats in the waiting area.

I hated going to my local vets as we had to endure dogs barking/whining, telephones ringing off the hook, voices, sudden peals of laughter and doors continually banging. Not good when you piggles aren't well. Even once inside the consultation room, it wasn't much better as the internal divider walls were paper thin! I would tut like Skippy the Bush Kangaroo until I got home... my nerves in tatters! The piggies had to calm me down :P A separate waiting room for exotics sounds like heaven.......or a stiff G&T before going :D

I had no idea the separate waiting room for small animals was a thing, is it more common in town vets, or in certain areas perhaps, as I have never come across it - and it's such a good idea. Majorly impressed by the one in the photo above.
I've often felt very sorry for people with cats too, as it seems that people think they have a right to look into the carrier as though the poor worried owner was actually just running a petting zoo!

I'd never come across it before, the vets I've been to up until I moved to a city have been in small towns or villages and were general vets. I suspect it would mostly be practises where they have a separate Exotics department and a large premises.

My vet has separate waiting areas, but it's a relatively small practice, so there aren't generally a lot of other pets waiting at the same time, so we usually just wait in the primary waiting room. Our pigs also aren't that bothered by dogs ... we have two (bichons) that get carried through the pigs' room at bedtime, and the pigs are unfazed by this (continue whatever they're doing without reaction); they also do not react to the dog barking down stairs.
If there are pets in the waiting room, they are well controlled on a leash (dog) or in a carrier (anything else). There is a posted policy that owners must keep pets this way. Free roaming pets would be unacceptable.
When they had construction in the lobby, they had pets wait outside/in cars if necessary and would have them go directly to rooms through the side door to avoid the construction.

Done. Since my last visit our vet has set-up a separate waiting are for small animals but i haven't used it yet. I imagine you will still be able to hear the dogs barking as it is only a small building but at least they are trying to make improvements. Their other practice is cats only, i wish it would change to cats and exotics.

That's good to know. It can get really noisy and stressful for piggies
