Submit your pictures for the GPOTM August 2007.

All you need to do is post a picture of your guinea pig on this thread (1 picture per person per month) and include a reason why your guinea pig should be chosen. This should not be based on the looks of a guinea pig, but the reason why the owner believes their guinea pig should be chosen.

All guinea pigs that are entering for GPOTM August 2007 need to be in by Sunday 19th August 2007 - You can then vote for the guinea pig you would like to be seen as GPOTM August 2007 by following the instructions in the last post in this thread.

Members will be able to cast their votes until Tuesday 21st August 2007 (9PM GMT).

The winner will be announced after 9pm (GMT) with the Guinea Pig that has been chosen taking a place in the GPOTM Photo Gallery.

:) Hi, I would like to put Pooky up for GPOTM. I bought him from a local pet shop 4yrs ago because I knew there was something wrong with him. Took him straight to my vets, who thought he had a chest infection, but with many more visits too the vets because of fur loss, scabs, wheezing, stuff up nose, it was decided that he had allergies. Over the 4yrs he has has good bouts and bad bouts, but at moment he has had a very good long spell with no fur loss or scabs because of biting himself. When I first had him, you just couldn`t handle him because he was so itchy, but as time went on and his allergies settled down, he has turned into the most loveable little cuddly boy. I am so glad to have choosen to have him and give him the care he has needed because of all the love he gives me.

Pooky

Hi All,

Cuzzy6.jpg

I'd like to nominate my Sheltie Cuzzy for GPOTM. I've only had him for two weeks but in that time he has been through the mill. I got him from P @ H and he was totally fine. After a few days I noticed he had mites and was very skittish. He is under treatment with the vet and is seperated from his buddies Sunshine and Twinkle. For the first couple of days he looked so sad but over time he has gotten used to us and is now so tame. He is such a lovely little boy and I feel because he has had to cope with some minor challenges he deserves some luck and perhaps GPOTM so vote Cuzzy! :-D

I would like to nominate our Scruffy. He had a rough time while his little pal Fuzzy was poorly, and when we lost Fuzzy, Scruffy became quite sad and withdrawn, and very nervous.
Since he got Lucky to play with he has really come out of his shell, he is so lively and doesn't walk, he bounces! he also looks after Lucky who was bullied and bitten in the pet shop.
Today he didn't run from my hand and let me stroke him without fleeing for the first time, so I would like to nominate our Scruff for being a little trooper!

Hello! ;D
I would like to nominate Cobweb, Prince of Darkness. I'd never owned a guinea pig until we brought Cobweb home. Cobweb is the reason I fell head over heels in love with guinea pigs as a species. Cobweb makes me feel good because I'm the only person he'll allow to handle him, and we've grown very close these last 7 months. He totally trusts me, and there's no nicer feeling. He brings no end of amusement to my children with his flasher antics and general demeanour, in that he seems to think he's the size of a Great Dane. He is fearless, bold and confident. He is also grumpy, anti-social and bad-tempered. He exudes attitude - "I'm great. I'm fabulous. Of course you love me, you ridiculous creature." He has blown all preconceptions of 'what guinea pigs are' out of the window for me. He is amazing, and I love him very much.

Also, he would bite me if I didn't put him up for GPOTM.

I have to nominate my wee Lucy, my Christmas cavy. In November 2005 I saw a piggy on the SSPCA website located at a shelter some 80-odd miles from me. Beautiful tricolour crested girly. I thought nothing more of it until I looked on the site a month later, the 17th of December, and she was still there. I called them and was surprised to find she was still there. Could I leave her there for Christmas? No way. With a bit of begging to my other half he drove us the journey and she was ours the same day.

She weighed a pathetic 700g at the time we got her (she was supposed to be around 10 months old) and was disappointed to see she was being fed hamster mix at the centre. It took a few days before she would trust us enough to eat. Here we are almost two years later and though she is still unsure of strangers she is the most loving, chunky (1150g) ball of fuzz.

Here's a rather surreal piccy I took of her about 6 months ago :)

hi people
photoalbum057.jpg

i'd like to nominate Dallas.
i adopted dallas when he was 6 months old nobody wanted him as he is all the same colour he's a bit dull apparerntly. i was looking for a piggy partner for iowa when i saw this little girl peering into this cage and then i heard her say "daddy i don't want that one he looks boring" so me being me i had to have a look and there he was cute as could be and thta was it home he came although the bonding didn't work out i love him to bits he's a stroppy mister and loves nothing more than giving me a telling off
but if i'm ever upset and thats quite often he's the first one to come and investigate i thank my lucky stars every day that the little girl never wanted him because i wouldn't be parted with him for the world.

This is Molly. She is a very happy guinea but her life has had such a lot of changes.

The day we got her she leapt off my husbands lap into a prickly hedge in the garden, he managed to catch her (had a few scratches too lol) but she was ok.

She used to live with Mitzi our rabbit (I had no idea then that it wasn't advised) and they adored each other. Mitzi became quiet and withdrawn and wouldn't come out of the sleeping end and Molly was right there by her side. She obviously knew something was wrong. Mitzi was found to have a tumour and had to be pts and Molly was right out of sorts, bless her, although we tried to comfort her but she just wanted to hide away.

Couldn't bear it so we got a baby guinea to live with her (Smudge) and she accepted her so readily.

Since then we have introduced three other girlie piggies (all young ones) and she has become "Auntie Molly" to them all, they all have the utmost respect for her yet I have never seen her be anything but gentle with them. She has adapted to the situation so well and we are so proud of her.

I nearly forgot to say, she has a broken toe. Lord knows what she caught it on but it sticks out at a right angle. I took her to the vets and they bandaged it up but it only lasted a couple of days and she managed to get it off. The vet said she was such a good girl having it done.

I would like to re-nominate my Muffin, she and Crumpet were dumped in a cage outside a petshop in Aberdeen :( and Muffin was all scabby and sad. shes really picked up and just has the most innocent face a piggie mummy could ask for :smitten: She came to me during a time I was really depressed and felt my life wasnt worth living and i can honestly say she and Crumpet changed my life and brought some happiness back into it :smitten: Heres my wonderful girl

I'd like to nominate Charlie.
I got Charlie and his brother Archie from a pet shop a few months ago.
Charlie fell out with his brother so I sepereated them. A few days later I realised that he couldn't use his back legs properly, so I kept him indoors in a small space for a while and gave him calcium tablets and slowly his legs got better, now he is a very loyal and tame piggy and he popcorns about everywhere:

I am putting Harry forward, as he has had a tough couple of months....Having his bits cut off, agreeing to is as he thought he would get a couple of girlfriends, then ending up back on his own minus his bits because he is such a sexual deviant!

I think he needs the GPOTM status to prove to everyone he is still the top pig, and to stop the other boars disrespecting his autority! ;D ;D ;D

porter004.jpg

I would like to nominate Porter. I was asked to take Porter on by a pet shop. She had been used as a money making machine for a year having litter after litter.
When I picked her up I was in utter shock at the state she was in *see thread* http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=10740.0
She made a rapid recovery and took well to all the baths she was given & turned out to be a vocal happy girl. She has now gone up to Scotland to take in the fresh air and continue her recovery. Despite all the pain she would have been in when I first got her she trusted me to get her better. One of lifes fighters - Porter

ps I'll not mention her biting me though!

I'd like to nominate Blaze.

In the last month he's lost his son and ex-cagemate, Scampy, very suddenly, had an internal fungal infection and become an adoptive parent to our new piggie Oscar.

After losing Scampy he spent a week mostly sitting in his cage looking out of the bars for his son (they had to be separated back in March but continued to curl up next to each other between the cage divider) which prompted us to get him his new cage mate (who he picked himsef) and so far he seems to be getting on with Oscar quite well.

Most impressively he's been taking his medicine (for the fungal infection) with hardly any fuss where before he hated being syringe fed. He has also mellowed and has suddenly become much more people friendly.

He's always been an extremely brave and fearless piggie, and always needs to know what's going on around him and didn't seem to take it personally after Scampy fell out with him. Although I'm biased, he is also an extremely handsome pig :)

This is him (on the left) with his new cage mate:

Blaze passed away three and a half hours after I posted this this morning :'(

Can I still have him put forward posthumously?

awww hunny i'm sorry to hear that. *massive hugs* i hope you still can put him up for it. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

ok, i'd like to nominate Pansy. she's been through a lot lately, and she's a very special piggy. It all started when we got her and her sister (definitely a girl) and found out that peony was pregnant already. :-\ We were then advised to take pansy away from peony while she was 'in pig' and till after she had them, unfortunately we left pansy another day, and it just so happened that peony had them on that day, however we did then take her out straight away. it was sooo sad cos she moped as she had even seen the babies. she has never been able to go back as peony has the mothering instinct and started fighting whenever we introduced them. :'( :'( so she is on her own and has been for at least 3 months (getting loads a fuss from mummy of course) and she's waiting for bertie (1 of the babies) to have the snip so he can go with her. it doesn't sound like much compared to some of the others nominated here but it's enough for her.
Here's my little darling.

Id like to put forward little Bertie, He will be about 10 months now, I was going to have him neutered but as hes been with ladies in his previous home he might not settle down with female company so i had a go at bonding him with my older male Sid who's nearly 2. Luckily they are both very laid back pigs and have taken to each other well, they even share a house without fighting and enjoy sharing veggies together. Its very cute :smitten:

28th029.jpg

He still likes his ladies a lot....i put him in the carrier the other day turned round to pick Sid up and Bertie had climbed out and was up at the bars of the girls cage saying hello.
