My boys are currently getting the woodlands (pets at home) cold pressed, grain free pellets for guinea pigs.

They’re around £6 a bag so quite expensive. I cut them up into smaller pieces which is such a faff but my boys won’t eat them any other way.

Has anyone got ideas of what other grain free nuggets I can feed them? Preferably low in calcium.

Thanks

We do a mix of versele laga (from zooplus), rosewood naturals (also cold pressed, very good and can get from pet shops) and science selective grain free (also from pet shops). My pigs prefer the versele laga and selective over the rosewood but they eventually eat it. I can’t remember now which is lower in calcium but I think they’re all pretty good, I try and keep low calcium too :)

Ah I’m from the UK so I’m looking for pellets that I can pick up from a pet shop rather than order online.

The woodlands ones they’re currently on are cold pressed and grain free so they’re basically like their version of the rosewood ones. I’d much prefer to feed grain free to try and decrease bloat risk.

I switched them from the pets at home guinea pig nuggets a few months back as they were very high in calcium and also weren’t grain free.

I’m UK too :) Absolutely, I find grain free to be best for all my animals! Might be worth trying the science selective then, it’s not cold pressed but it is grain free and loved by my pigs. It’s also in small pieces so you won’t need to cut it. I believe P@H sell it as well.

Thank you for your advice😊. Do you know what the calcium levels are like in those pellets? I’ve thought about trying them with the boys but am trying to stay away from high amounts of calcium.

I agree with the above, it’s a fab chart. It’s the lowest of those 3 at 0.6% against the 0.8% of the other two :)

I believe Science Selective have changed their ingrediants so it may be worth waiting to get the new bag or you will be having another change over quite soon. My P at H have the old ones still at the moment so I haven't been able to see what's changed. I'm hoping they are lower calcium.

Pets at Home sell Science Selective, if you can use VetUK online though they are quite a bit cheaper.

There are a few options on the chart when it comes to grain free, but the best for budget is probably the science selective. I haven't used it myself but heard good reviews.

Hello everyone. Thank you to anyone that replied with suggestions of trying my pigs on science selective grain free.

I bought them a bag today to try and I’m very pleased to say they love them! The minute I opened the bag they were just about nibbling my hand to get their heads inside the pack!9F41EB3B-EA6C-46E5-A518-40E85AFEA1F1.webpEEE98F61-A69A-4C67-B54C-2E9EB83E0008.webpAB7E2D3D-8B4E-4419-A6BF-477AF43C5AF8.webp66A10626-FB1B-482F-B30F-AF5A31C223B1.webp
