So they don't get them very often but just wondered how you cut them..? With children choking on them..just got me worried about the piggies...

Normally in half but if massive in quarters, have peeled them in the past too.... Like to do them grapes occasionally as I get to eat them while doing the veg :))

Thank You ! I have had a banana today that will do for me lol !

Don't over do the fruit lol :)) Do Gladys and Pip like Banana?
I am a bad eater ... only like apples, grapes and banana! Not tried them with banana to be honest.. next time i have one i will give them a taste.. knowing Pip, she will scoff it...Gladys is a bit more reserved !

It always amazes me that they all love banana skins. I can't think of anything worse! Probably better for them as there's less sugar than the banana itself.

My wife buys grapes once or twice a month & all our rescue piggies will get 2 1/4 pieces each a day for 2 days as a special treat :) x

In half. They've not had any since we tried Romily on them and she didn't seem impressed. Fudge goes through stages, sometimes she will eat them, other times not.

Toby and Barney are scared of banana skins. Run awayyyyyyyy!

That's really weird.....all of mine have loved them, It's quite handy as they are just thrown out (to the compost). The only thing about banana skins is that it stains their teeth brown. I can always tell who ate the most!

I'll have to try my 3 with banana skin I've tried them with sliced banana but they weren't keen!

Hmmm... I may try the banana skins. Hadley LOOOVES bananas, but we seldom give them.

I found on an old thread someone said they can eat the woody bit too? Can you literally give them the stalk, as in, if I eat a bunch of grapes can I give them the leftover stem to nibble on?

Many piggies prefer the banana skin, actually. It has the same nutrition as the fruit, but best make it organic.

I feed any grapes halved with skins on. Strawberry greens can also be fed together with strawberries when they are in season.

Fruit (including tomato) should not be on the menu more than twice in a week; that is all fruit and not each variety on its own.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the stalks, vines and leaves of grapes are a rabbit aphrodisiac...

Mine adore banana, apparently it has more fibre and less sugar so is better for them. Mine normally get a bit of skin once a week, there's normally a left over one going a bit brown! I feed grapes whole, as they only get one each once a week, they just take it and munch! Wilbur snatches his, runs off and keeps a paw on it!

I'd also like to give them the banana with the peel, but I'm concerned that the peel may be treated with some chemical to keep the fruit fresh during transport. Do you give only bio bananas, or all also regular ones? And how do you clean the banana peel, before giving it?

Well, if I want to give the banana peel to the guinea pigs, I'd like to make sure it's clean.

Lol it's a banana how dirty could it be?! I've never cleaned a banana in my life, me and the pigs are still alive. I think if I've got as far as 32 and 20 years of guinea pig keeping with no casualties I'll give it a miss :))

:D I admit to germophobia. I sometimes go to great lengths to ensure things are properly cleaned, LOL

I don't know, when I just think of everybody touching the bananas all the way from the tree to my house, whether they washed their hands... But I guess just water and brush should be enough, right? Just to be clear - I also don't wash the banana inside, I'm referring to the peel, because I've read that guinea pigs enjoy it more than the banana.

Lmao! I'm imagining you trying to wash the inside! I'm sure it's fine, the only thing I ever wash is strawbs and I'm still here ;)
