Hi everyone, we have a dog who obviously uses our garden as a 'toilet' .. he doesn't use one spot, he just wee's wherever he feels like it.

My guinea pigs obviously go on the grass when the weather is nice and I also pick grass for them when its too cold to go out - is this dangerous for them to eat it? My rabbits also free range and eat the grass so it's really unavoidable :(

Can you section off part of the garden and keep it dog free - that way the rabbits and piggies would have clean grass. I wouldn't feed wee'd-on grass to my furries.

That's an interesting question. If you think about it, animals in the wild will graze on grass that got peed on or not. But I would say avoid it if possible, but I don't think having a little ingested would kill them. I agree with Sue G, can you make a special section just for the pigs and bunnies so you don't worry? Or you can buy a planter and plant some grass just for them, and then they can have fresh grass to nom on any time of year :)

Yes I agree with the 2 previous replies, section part of part of your garden off from the dog. After a heavy rainfall you could maybe section off a different part.

I don't know where the idea that dog urine is toxic came from, urine is sterile unless the dog has an infection, it will also dissipate quickly, particularly after rain or overnight. However, I'd still agree with the others, set up a run for your rabbits and guineas so they can have a clean area of grass to themselves. You could also train your dog to use a particular 'toilet' area of the garden.

:agr: I'm sure you dont want your pigs to be come sick its better to know if they do become sick that thats not the problem :) x

I can't section off a part of the garden, it's literally Impossible as our garden is small as it is - I could do it for the piggies i suppose but not the rabbits as I like them to free range and have the whole run of the garden as it makes a big difference from being in their run.

We pick up all dog poo beforehand but he wee's wherever, we can't train him :((
