Since we got the dogs our piggies dont get to go on the grass in the garden. (we could shut the dogs in the house and easily pop them on the lawn but i worry because the dogs pee on the grass). How important is grass in their diet? they get fresh veggies every day and hay and dry food is constantly topped up.

I've been looking at this dried grass, specifically the excel forage dried grass and wondering if i should be getting that for them too. Its not available in any pet shops around here but it's on the pets at home online shop so i'm wondering if they would order it in to the store for me? Do any of you use this?

I just give my piggy loads of fresh hay because we don't have grass in our garden :( But he seems to be happy and content with it

I have indoor piggies so they never get out on grass - I buy readigrass for them as a treat and of course, they always have their hay.

Ours have always been indoor piggies too. we just used to pop them out in the summer if it was ever warm enough. How often do you give readigrass?

I've never been without grass myself. I love getting them outside, they seem to love the fresh air and it's a good opportunity for them to excercise too. Could you perhaps leave the run down on the grass to prevent the dogs peeing in this area, and simply leave your dogs in the house while the pigs are outside?

If I laid out a mixed veg or salad platter with long grass at the bottom all of my pigs would nudge the food away and eat the grass first it is their firm favourite mine however show little interest in readigrass

I do what Tracy has said. Keep the run out, so I know the dog cant pee on that bit. She does tend to go in the same spot though, so its not too much bother. Dog goes in the garden with piggies, she can't get in the run obviously, but she doesn't try to anyway. If you can I would say get them out, they love the fresh air, and you can't beat fresh grass. When its raining, I cut some with the scissors and put it the hutch for them and they love that too. x

I never thought of leaving the run out, what a good idea. Our dogs pee and poop all over the garden :-(. They would have to be locked away too as they are greyhounds and will chase and hurt anything small and furry they can get their paws on :-(
To be honest the weather is so awful at the moment i cant see them getting out there again this year but i think i'll definately try that next year unless we have a sunny weekend before then! :))

Love Greyhounds Grommit. I have a lurcher. She is unusual though as she loves the piggies. Good Luck. Weather not looking very promising. x

My piggies live indoors and as weather is so bad i pick them some grass wash it and then give it to them they love it!

i put my Cookie out in her run to get some grass when it's nice and sunny but recently it's been wet and raining so have not been able too. She has her hay though and sometimes we pick her some grass so that she can be an indoor grass eating pig! :))

One of my girlies doesn't seem to be able to digest grass any more. She bloats up every time that she has grass so I've now stopped feeding it. It's a shame as they all love it.
