A few months ago I noticed that My pig had a piece of grass stuck into his two front teeth. I was concerned by this. It didn't seem to bother him. He was still eating and such. I was just concerned. I knew it was not normal! I went to the pet store and asked them what they suggested- floss. Yeah right! I went on line- tooth pick. Umm yea right!

He seem to be fine now. It must have fallen out on it's own after awhile.

What I am wondering if any of you guys have fallen into this? And what have you done?

I am not an experience Piggie Mom! :(

Well done on checking your piggies teeth! Checking the front teeth means you may spot changes that could signify problems with the back teeth, and it's always good to get them used to being checked over/having their mouth looked at etc.

I've never noticed this problem with my piggies, but I think what I'd do would initially be to feed them something relatively hard and crunchy, like a carrot, that they have to force their front teeth into to chew, in the hope that it pushed the grass out, much like a tooth pick would.

Hope that helps!

Amanda

Thanks Amanda.

I was told also that if I fed him hard foods it would come out. But I feed him carrots on a reg basis. No idea how it fell out.

Should I be concerned if this happens again? Or will it fall out on it's own and it's really not that big of a deal?

It doesn't really sound like a big problem. As long as there are no changes in his behavior and eating habits, I think he will be fine.

Panda has had a piece of sharp hay stuck between her molars before. She was eating the hay then started brushing the side of her mouth/cheek with her front foot. We left her till the following morning and noticed she wasn't eating with as much enthusiasm so off to the vets where they sedated her and pulled out a piece of hay. The vet thought on apperance it was straw rather than hay. I complained to the suppliers (beaphar) about the poor quality of the hay and I recieved a £5 cheque.
