Hello All

I don't have grass in my garden, but my brother does. However he uses an electric mower to mow his lawn. Can I feed them grass that has been mowed, or does it need to be scissor trimmed.

Also he only lives a 2 minute drive from mine, i was toying with the idea when i go at the weekned of taking one pair of boars (the oldest pair) and a garden run round to his to let them be outside and on the grass etc.
When i have taken them to the vets the journey didn't appear to stress them but I know they hide their illness' and stress quite well. So think a little trip to my brothers would be fine, opinions?
THanks
jOe

I wouldn't feed mower cuttings, even electric ones.

I would think they'd be fine with a short drive to grass! May even instil more positive associations with car journeys

Hey Thanks for this. Looks like i will have to intriduce grass slowly to their diet. MY brother is going to think I am crazy when I turn up with a pair of scissors to cut his grass haha

I go out at 6am every morning with my scissors cutting bits off my lawn. Been caught by the neighbours a few times but they all know I'm the crazy Guinea pig lady lol

here people think I am crazy because I also go out in the late afternoon with scissors and knife (and bag). I walk some minute for reaching some lovely private garden where I can cut some fresh grass (before the gardner goes there with the mower).
The grass cut by the mower is not appropriate for a piggie and it is even cut too short. Tell your brother to keep the grass grow in a side of his garden, so that you can go there even once every two days for getting some good food for your piggies. The cut grass sprayed with water and kept into a plastic bag in the fridge lasts 2 days.
2 minutes by car is a short time... you need the same time for going to the supermarket and the grass is even healthier than the vegs.
And yes, with this great luck of having a brother livign nearby, your piggies will enjoy the trip to the "uncle":D.
Don't absolutely worry for the "stress". My piggies had a quite long journey for coming home and they ate their hay and vegs, made wee and poo, slept and had a good time (half hour by car+3 hours by train+half hour by car in Rome where the roads are full of bad holes which ruin even the car:evil:... that was the part of the journey more stressful for them, infact they stayed hidden under the hay)

One evening it was late and I ran to the garden with my usual bag and the knife in hand; I walked very fast because it was night when behind a corner a tall big boy appeared and was scared of me and my knife...:yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes: I don't understand why...:)):)):)). Me, a gentle lady...:sly:
