Does it matter how much grass my girls eat? They LOVE it..Wet it's to wet for them to go out I bring the grass in..

I wonder that too! Mine don't stop eating it when they're out and I'm sure have put on weight since it's been nicer and they can go out.

Grass, grass and more grass

Mine eat grass all day long. And are perfectly healthy. But am waiting to read with anticipation the replies to this post. :)

As long as they don't get soft poo from it, then it's fine :) Just at first people should introduce them to grass slowly.

But then they can have unlimited grass. :) It's good to have a bit of hay available to them aswell when they're on the grass, in case they want that.

Grass is really the most natural food for them :)

this is just an assumption, but surely in the wild their diet would've been predominantly grass, so i've always assumed that it's fine to let them eat however much they like.

Yeah that's what I think too :) and weeds too. But I think the grass in gardens might be more rich or something, but as long as they don't get upset tummies, I think it's fine for them to eat grass all day :)

I would go careful on introducing rich fresh grass at first - it can cause soft poo, or diarrhea or even bloat if they eat too much at once. Once they are used to it, no problem.

In nature, guinea pigs mainly eat a mix of fresh and dry grass, other greens and fruits they come across, but even occasionally small insects for protein. The territory of a herd is usually big enough that by the time the roaming herd comes back, the grass has grown back.

Please continue to feed hay; they need that to keep the guts stable. Rather cut back a bit on veg or pellets when feeding large amounts of lawn grass.

I cut the edges of my lawn back with scissors and feed them freshly cut grass virtually every day they can't go out.

I do that too..In fact if they did go outside today that would have been bowed away...We had wind here up to 70 kms...

my lot love it too...!
when mine are out... that day i dont give them food like lettuce...and vice versa.... and ive never had an up-set piggy tum...
i love watching them devour the grass it does make me giggle... :)
x

I only let them out like an half hour or so as I have to watch them as I have to watch for dog...So I can't leave them alone at all..

I've just given my little guys some grass and they are happily munching away. Hopefully the weather here will still be as gorgeous tomorrow as it is today, then Stig and Winston can go play outside tomorrow! Off work tomorrow thank god!

Plus their C&C Cage get finished tomorrow! And they are getting lots of little accessories as well, Spoiled little piggies!x)
