Here's my question, does grass count as part of piggies veg or hay ration ? If it counts as part of their veg then I probably need to cut back on the other veg, but if you can treat it like hay then we're fine, and I'll have some VERY happy piggies :) Right now they are getting a good big handful of grass each morning and then their normal veg in the evening. I started then off on a small amount of grass and slowly built it up so as not to upset their tummies. They are only about 6 months old, and I'm working on the principle that they are still growing girls ;) Am I doing the right thing?

I give my piggies grass ad lib once I'm happy their tummies are used to it. After all, no-one would be handing out hay if they lived in the wild! I bring them in when it gets cool/dark, and they get their normal hay, pellets and veggies then.

Piggies still need their usual hay to balance their guts and grind down their back teeth; treat grass more like half veg/half hay and feed a bit less watery veg after a full day out on the lawn but always keep up the vitamin C veg.

Please be careful with introducing fresh rich grass; too much at first can cause soft poos and tummy upsets in some piggies; you are doing the right thing in introducing it slowly. If you have piggies on the lawn all day, make sure that they have some kind of shelter (a shaded cardboard box filled with hay and a "door" cut in will give them shelter from cold winds/ground and dampness and they can munch on hay during the day which will help with the wet poos).
