Hello, this may sound weird but i have to boars and i hear people talking about grease glands all the time, i think i know where it is, but i have no idea what I'm doing with them o.0
My pigs are very stinky at the moment and I'm planning them a christmas bath then they're getting their nails cut soon too, but their what i think are grease glands is rather greasy, should i clean it ?
I'm planning on giving them a little dip in the water, no shampoo just a quick dip as i use foamy shampoo stuff that doesn't require water, gonna put a towely thing in the bottom of the sink and fill with some warm-ish water, can i use just water and a flannel to clean there grease glands ?

Any tips on a good scrub would be gratefully appreciated :)

I use fairy liquid or a teeny bit of swarfega on their grease gland. I find this works well, but you only need a very small amount, rub it in for a while, untill it feels soapy rather than greasy, rinse off and repeat if necessay.

Piggiepigpigs on youtube has a video showing how she cleans her pigs grease glands, its really good :-) I cant link you to it as youtube is not allowed here

Yeah I did McMacs today, was pretty grubby this time around. I would usually use fairy liquid on that one spot and I would use small animal shampoo on the rest of his body. You have to rub it in and let it sit for a minute or two before rinsing off. I just got hold of that Swarfega (little tub on Ebay for a couple of £) and it will last me forever since you only need a little bit each time :) It seemed to do the job pretty well.

how often does this need doing in a male and a female pig?
also how often for a full bath?
thanks

I would also like to know how often this should be done in a male and female piggy?

I checked my 2 boys grease glands yesterday, one has hair stuck together with grease around the grease gland and the other hasn't got greasy hair. When should I wash the grease gland? Is it when the hair around it gets greasy and stuck together like in one of my boars? The boys don't like me at the moment, we have only known each other for a week and a day so would prefer it if they did not need washing right now because I am sure they will hate me even more if I get them wet!

OK so from reading this post again

I think I do have to clean his gland as I do not want it to get infected and will also give the other boar a gland clean and bath too so they smell the same which will hopefully reduce the dominance fighting.. They are going to hate me even more! :(
