Hello,

Not sure if this is the right section to post in, I hope so ")

I have a boar with a horrible grease gland. I rescued him from his previous owner who had neglected him, so his gland hadn't been sorted out for a long while. It also looks very active, moreso than other guinea pigs I've had before. Before I would just use washing up liquid on the area, but I've tried this and it's still stuck fast :0 I've trimmed the fur around the gland to stop it getting all stuck together, but I don't know what to try next - something that attacks the grease more effectively but not my piggies skin. Has anyone else had long-term grease on a boar? It's really caked on and doesn't budge at all when I've attempted to clean it.

Thanks for reading, sorry it's a bit long, just trying to make him a bit more comfy :) I could upload a few pics if you want x

Maybe try swarfega, made with cleaning mechanics hands in mind, I have found this works well, but it sounds as if you may need to let it soak for a while, maybe do it a couple of times.

I've heard that whichever you coose to use, if you let it soak for around 15 mins this should help break it down. I used washing up liquid on one of my boars recently, massages it in with damp fingers on his dry bum and left for around 10 mins and it was certainly more effective than normal :)

definately as gogo said, my stan has a terrible problem with his gland and i have to bum bath him regularly.

I use swarfega, i massage it in for about fifteen minutes and shampoo and rinse then do it again and again if necessary. I also cut out any really bad bits with scissors.

I also use swarfega, I let it soak in and then gently lift the grease using a nit comb it leavers it up without hurting your piggie:)
