Hey,

So... I wasn't really sure where to put this Q!

What is the purpose of the grease gland and the grease?

Jeff has never had a problem with his - but since being with Cameo (who my flatmate is insisting on calling Grizzelda!), he's producing grease like nobodys business, and getting all waxy and ick!

Its used for sent marking, and because he's been on his own I doubt he's really felt the need to use it, now he's in with Cameo he's decided he wants to start scent marking.

Dirty beast! I suspected as much. He had a wash today at work with some swarfega and it seemed to do the trick quite nicely - I may have to ahem... acquire....some tomorrow for my pig kit!

Hello my boys are like that too.

I have a little trouble cleaning them though. I have a black pig and a black and white pig. On Barney (the white one) its easy to see and recently I have got it all off. However Bertie's is quite thick. I was never really able to see it because he is black but in another type of light the other day I saw it was really thick. I gave him a wash, got some swarfega on it with warmish water and hardly any came off. I didnt want to do it for longer because he was getting very fidgety nd trying to get away.
So I have a question, if I do this every other day will it eventually all come off? N is this a better idea for me to do? :)also do you have to leavr the jelly on for a bit or use lots of water or what? It never seems to really lather.
Thanks for any help n I hope I havnt hijacked your thread! them x

Is the scent gland getting mucky an inevitable thing? My boys are 7 months roughly and have never seemed to have any greasiness around there. Is it just some piggies that get a mucky one and would it be more likely to be the dominant piggy?xox

i am going to try the swarfega thing very soon, one of my boys is a teddy/rez and it keeps getting all matted up and icky, i tried trimming and guinea pig shampoo but i think you really need to use somet that dissolves the grease and makes it slide out of the fur....:{
