Grease Glands

Hi, we bathed our Guinea Pig for the first time a couple of weeks back. She didn't seem to mind it but got fed up after about 10 mins. I followed all the information I had been given etc except for one bit.... I didn't go anywhere near the grease glands.... in fact I wouldn't know where to start! Do other owners clean this, if so how do you do it without upsetting them and how often etc? Thanks (from a 1st time guinea pig owner.... who wishes she had done it years ago!)

Only one of my girls has a very active grease gland and I clean it using swefega.

Yup I was going to say swafega! I have heard that coconut oil is also good, but a (gentle) fingernail can help loosen things up.

I have 2 boys, one of whom ha a VERY active grease gland, although it is settling now he is out of his hormonal teens. I absolutely swear by swarfega (make sure it is the one without the abrasive bits). You rub it on to the greasy area before piggy gets wet, leave it for a few minutes and then wash it off and BINGO - no more greasy patch. I had tried everything I could think of before I found swarfega and I hadn't needed to put fairy liquid on them ever since!
