One of my boys, Leroy, is a bit greasy. Not used to this as I used to keep little girls only!

He and Malcolm only had a bath a few weeks ago so is there anything I can clean him with? I was thinking of using a wet wipe on him, just want to make sure they are ok to use?

You can actually use Swarfega on grease glands, I kid you not ;D

Rub a good dollop into the area, leave it to works it's magic (can't remember how long sorry :-[) and then bath as usual :)
 
swarfega is the most popular method of cleaning the grease gland as it breaks up the grease, I've got an orange smelling one
 
Hi I use swarfega on my boy pigs glands. I rub it in before a bath and it works really well.
 
I use washing up liquid on my boars greasespots and that seems to do a good job, I need to go some more swarfega though as it has run out now.
 
Yep good old swarfega- just at usual bathtime is fine for most pigs but if they are particularly greasy you may need to do just that area more often. Its not unpleasan to do, the swarfega does the hard bit.
 
I've only ever used washing up liquid, I will only use environmentally friendly ones, so use Ecover...it works a treat :)
 
Could someone explain to me what these grease glands are?
My big texel boy archie has a very large lump of waxy residue coming through his skin above where all his genitals are, is this a grease spot? ive tried pulling it off before and it really smells and often leaves an open wound in his skin so i do not like to mess with it now, if this is a grease spot will the swarfaga which you have all mentioned work through such a lump and if so where do i get it from please?

That is the grease gland Nat.

The Swarfega will work through it - just get piggie wet, put on a thick blob of it over the greasy area, leave for a few mins then rub it in and rinse. You may need to do it a couple of time if he is very bad. Then shampoo rest of pig as normal.
 
Thanks for that starshine I shall give it ago turns out my step dad has some at work so i have asked him to bring some home, ill let you know how it goes. It'll be great if it works coz its not very nice for him.

Just to let you know i have used the swarfega on Archie and it worked a treat :D Although is still left a large wound from where the grease had been but i am hoping if i keep his fur cut back an bathe it regularly the grease wont build up and so the sore will reduce. He is now bathed and had a hair cut here are some piks of him after his little ordeal hehe.

You should find that without the grease build up he won't get the sore anymore.

I have to bathe most of my boars every 6/8 weeks to stop grease build up. 2 are due for baths later so I won't be popular!
 
I'm back to using swafega as I bought some more today and it smells of oranges, and I have just bathed them etc and the greasespots are spotless :)
