Hi there
Just wondering what you all use to clean your boars grease spot. Ordinary shampoo doesn't seem to do the trick as it just seems to spread the grease around. One of my boars [Truffles] has a very greasy back end but the other [Zack] doesn't seem to produce much. Is this because Truffles hasn't been neutered yet and Zack has?.?/

Thanks doglovinpiggylover .
That makes sense . I was worried about using something that could cause Truffles to be ill. I've had Zack 3 years and never had this problem with him.

I use washing up liquid for the grease spots, does the job nicely. :)

I've also used swarfega followed by a gorgeous guineas shampoo on one of my boys. I found with the swarfega, I had to do about 5 separate rubs and rinses, although this may be due to my inexperience. Is there perhaps a trick to it?
I was shocked about how much dirt came out with the washing.

Good luck with yours, my boy hates anyone touching his grease gland, so it was a bit of a battle.

Lol Cavycouture. I know where you're coming from. My Truffles doesn't like it either so i wrap his top half up in a towel with only his butt sticking out. He doesn't seem to mind this as he doesn't struggle. I think he likes hiding in the towel. Maybe it spares his blushes.")

You can also use surgical spirit on a bit of cotton wool, or my particular favourite is 'ZOF wipes' from Boots. They are individually wrapped little square wipes for taking off the gunky stuff from plasters.

You just wipe the over, no need to rub!

Thanks, I will try the leaving on thing next time.

I dont have any comparison, as Tesla's grease gland doesnt seem to do anything yet (he's still young), but Chiral's doesnt get that greasy, it just seems to collect dirt! The hair around the area (he is an abby) always has a fine coating, and stays stuck flat, like he's wearing hair gel. But there's not blobs of grease being made or anything, like I've read some people get.

I have had the same problem with just one of my boys and washing up liquid just doesnt seem to do the trick. Where do you get swarfega from?

I got my Swarfega from amazon and its very good! As its good for removing grease, oil etc maybe a garage will sell it too

B&Q sell it too

After reading this thread I am wondering if all piggies have this, Reggie has always been clean down there but i do check him daily and wipe him clean if he has hay/sawdust around it.

Boars tend to get dirty grease glands but not all of them. Ive never had to clean any of my piggies grease glands before except Fennels as that always got very dirty! And now Lentil's gets quite dirty if left.

Jake has a cyst on his greast gland at the moment - its very small.

I managed to get some Swarfega :) but they had so many different types there I didnt know which one to get :{, so i bought the original hand wash is this the right one to use or should I have bought a different one? ?/ Also how do you apply it?

Why don't they like people touching their grease glands? Terry is quite sensitive about anyone touching his back end!

I have got the green looking one, I gently rub a blob in, let it soak in for about 5 mins then gently lift any lose grease off with a fine metal comb this eases it off gently and efficently:))

Thank you everyone for your advice on this i used the swarfega on my boys and it worked a treat and menai even seemed to really enjoy it (held up hes head and eyes started to shut) x>>
