Hi,

I am just curious as to why guinea pigs have a grease spot. I can just find advice about how to clean the grease spot. Nothing explaining what its actual purpose is.

Any information would be appreciated. :)

Cheers

Siobhan

I think Siobhan want to know 'why' it is there, the reason? Is there a reason or are they just like males having nipples? lol xx

I only have one boar and have no idea what you're talking about. can anyone explain it to me and what I should be doing?

I think boars can get greasy around their bums and you are meant to clean it with Swarfega. Don't know if it is common though, might just be one of those things that happens to the odd pig, if you haven't experienced it before...

All boars have a grease gland which is where a tail would be if they had one. The question we are looking at here is 'why'
It does need to be cleaned regularly, and a gentle rub with swarfega or fairy liquid, followed by a bum bath usually does the trick.
Have a feel round the tail area Joanne and Liza, you will find it quite easily. Possibly sticky greasy type fur. xx

Cool thanks I'll check later... So jayne do you know why they have it?

I have cleaned my piggy's grease glands about twice since ive had them and Joey's was more greasy than Gizmo's. Maybe its something to do with the dominance? As Joey is the more dominant one and his is the most 'active'. Or maybe its just there own unique smell? Kinda like body odour? I'm most probably totally wrong!
This shows you were to find the grease gland lisa and joanne and how to clean it.
