Greasy fur around bottom

Elizabeth has really greasy fur around her bottom despite me giving her a bum bath with coconut oil. Her grease gland looks normal and doesn’t feel particularly greasy so I’m wondering why this could be?

It’s still too cold to give her a full bath as it isn’t a medical emergency but would giving her a full bath
help? She tends to sit in the same part of the cage quite often so I’m wondering if sitting in urine isn’t helping even though I spot clean and remove soiled bedding at least once a day

Hi Claire. I think some pigs do produce extra grease in this area, the sebaceous glands are active in the skin. It's a common place to get sebaceous cysts. As long as her skin underneath looks healthy, l do wonder if repeated washing stimulates the glands even more, and using an oil like coconut oil will make it even more greasy
I tend to just leave things be and brush the area regularly to disperse the grease. I just shampoo with a mild shampoo if it looks dirty. Hope that helps? X

Rupert got much worse with his in his last six months, looked a bit grubby with him being all white with black skin/grease gland, but I did the same as @pig in the city has suggested and just brushed it out regularly as he hated bum baths and was over six by then bless him. Hope you can get her bum looking lovely and not so greasy soon! xx

Thank you both. Her skin looks lovely underneath the fur so I think I’ll do as suggested and just keep brushing the grease out and leave bum baths out I can’t say she likes them x

I’m so pleased Luigi hasn’t needed one yet, think neither of us would like it too much, I’d probably lose an arm!

Bill and Ted have really greasy grease glands too, you can literally pick off black lumps of grease despite regular bum baths. I’ve never come across this before with any other piggies I’ve had x
