Hello, wondering if anyone can help. I have been on here before asking for advice for flaky skin. I have had my two boars at the vet a few months ago and they were treated for a small infestation of lice. Vet said it was nothing bad, completed there treatment of invermectin and hoped that would be it. Ever since one of my boars has a chunk of hair that’s a lot greasier than the rest, on inspection I noticed a lot of flaky skin and he absolutely hates being touched there. I hoped a gentle bath would help and allow the grease to go and hopefully the dry skin but no avail. He really won’t let me near it now and has even tried to bite, something he would never do before. I know he needs the vet again as it’s not going away on it’s own. Is this another possible lice infestation or worse? He has long hair with rosettes which I trim often but worried I am missing doing something if he has yet another infestation or something. Any help would be appreciated :)

Hi!

where is the greasy patch located? If it is about a finger's width above the genitals on the bum, then you are dealing with an overactive grease gland, which is not at all uncommon in boars.

No it’s up the middle of his back, just between where his ‘hips’ would be. I have cleaned his grease gland before, it’s not the hair around there. I checked again tonight and the greasy hair is now going up to his neck. His fur can be really soft but feels coarse now and looks scruffy, which isn’t like him.
