Hello guys, as some of you know I have been considering getting my little Alfie a companion. I have talked to my parents today and they said maybe and they will think about it. Since my birthday is next month on the 7th, I will pay for the guinea pig with some of my birthday money. I will also get an extra water bottle and other items. If they agree, I will probably get the guinea pig a few days after my birthday. I will ask for bonding advice and tips when it gets closer to my birthday. I will be getting a boar, most likely a young one.

That's awesome! Any way you could go to a shelter or rescue where they let you bring your guinea pig to meet potential companions? That way you're less likely to come home with two boars that may be incompatible.

No, I dont think there are any shelters in my area that would let me bring Alfie to meet other boars. But the shelter where I am considering getting a boar from does have a 14 day return policy, so if things dont turn out with Alfie and the new boar I could find him a home or return him back.

Good luck!

I'm playing catch up on the forum so welcome and it's great that you are getting Alfie a companion. Make sure they have plenty of space 140cm cage minimum for two boars as more space helps to ease tensions. It's also worth thinking about potential vets bills and putting money aside to help cover the costs if they arise. I know the US has a tendency to be more expensive than the UK so if you are still at school/college I would really recommend a weekend job to help out some wages aside if the worst happens.

Yes I have measured the cage and have more than enough space. I have some money set aside
