Green Beans And Peppers

hello lovely people! I have been trying to expand what my piggies eat - they can be fussy so it's hard work! I've read so many threads and websites I think I've got myself all muddled. Which are the green beans they can eat? Is it these: Fine Green Beans Waitrose at Ocado

Also, is there a nutritional difference between capsicum and Romano peppers?

I give my piggies green beans almost daily (usually one to share between 2 pigs). They look very much like the ones in the link you posted.

I don't know Romano peppers, but looking at google pics it looks like they are burny peppers? It's always advised to stay away from burny peppers for guinea pigs.

Green beans are fine in moderation, maybe once or twice weekly..

We feed our piggies Capsicum / bell peppers daily, but occasionally as a treat Romano peppers due to them being expensive also normally we hollow them out and stuff with their favourite herbs , as with both types remove all seeds first.

I think some people get muddled between the American terms for veggies and English i.e


Coriander = cilantro
courgette = zucchini
spring greens = collard greens

I say this because the green beans we are referring to are also known as dwarf / french / fine beans . I say this because some Americans call runner beans green beans. I remember reading on a RSPCA facts sheet that runner beans are poisonous for Guinea Pigs so, I never feed mine runner beans.

Thanks everyone. That list is really useful. I'm happy that I know I've got the right beans now - I had confused myself so much!

It's good to know about the peppers too. Mine seem to be hit and miss with capsicum peppers so I'll give the others a go when they're next on offer!
