Hi there
I don't know whether anybody had asked this before but my guinea pig has a weird green stuff on this top teeth that have spread all around his nose and lips, it doesn't smell like its infected and he is behaving no different than before, when we tried to clean it off it was coming off but due to him liking to bite we only managed to remove part of it, any idea what it might be and what is causing it?
Thanks

Does he eat a lot of grass? Mine get green lips and chins when they've had a good go at mowing the lawn.

He does, however he still has it even when he didn't have veggie all day (he doesn't really eat grass more lettuce, cucumber etc). The best way I can describe it it looks like a booger that you dig out of your nose, sorry that's the best way to describe it and it kinda sticks to his teeth.

Can you post a pic? It could be chelitis if it's scab like, but you need to see a vet for a proper diagnosis. Do you feed them fruit & if so what sort & how often?

Will post a picture when my fiancé gets bk as he has to hold it for me to take the picture, it's a bit scaby around his nose and mouth, yeah I'm gonna try to him a vets that would see him for free as at the moment as much as I want to take him my financial situation won't let me , they barely eat fruit (only apples really) as they prefer veggie

I'm from around Birmingham (west midlands) and I think it is that I have looked it up on Internet and all the signs point to it

If it is Chelitis she does need to see a vet for treatment.

My Nigel used to get it but his was linked to an overdose of Candida and so he was treated with Nystatin which is an oral medication. The vet would need to determine though if it was bacterial or fungal related. I think it could be fungal as due to the weather we have had lately there are a lot of cases happening.

There are a few members on here from the same area so they should be able to recommend a vet, also have a look on our recommended vets locator. They may even let you pay in instalments.
