Hi there I am wondering if someone could help. Over the past few weeks I noticed that one of my male piggies was not pooping much and his tummy was Bloated and he was very unhappy. I first noticed it after I gave him carrot so I cared for him and did as I had read and gave him more hay and his usual pellets and stopped veggies for a few days. This worked and he was soon pooping like a trooper and no longer bloated and back to his usual self. I gradually started giving him his usual spring greens and kale once again and he ate these happily however he became bloated again and again pooped a lot less. I immediately cared for him again and stopped all greens and gave him pellets and hay and lots of tummy rubs and he is now happier than ever. Popcorning, and being his usual bonkers self! He is pooping really well and eating and drinking and seems so much happier and his tummy is lovely and soft. I am a little worried that he seems to have lost a bit of weight and I can feel his hip bones when I stroke him. I’m now wondering if he was bloated for longer than I thought as he is incredibly lively and eating drinking pooping like never before. I don’t want to make him poorly again by giving him greens but I do want to help him put weight on if he has lost some.
I suffer badly with anxiety so please don’t make me panic by saying he needs to go to vet as I know he is ok except the loss of fat/weight.

I am sorry that your piggy has been poorly.
The most important part of a piggies diet is hay but they also need some fresh veggies for the vitamin C content. If you slowly reintroduce the greens giving just a tiny bit at first and increasing until he has a handful of fresh veg daily. Alternatively you can feed small amounts of fresh grass or dandelions.
Monitor his weight by weighing him at the same time each week on kitchen scales. If he continues to lose weight you must take him to see a vet, anxiety or not. You would feel a lot worse if he got ill. Perhaps a friend could go with you?
