Has anyone tried this? It's pellets with dried apple and carrot. I know my boys would love it but I'd be wary about feeding dried apple on a daily basis. At the moment they get a small piece of fresh apple once a week and a slice of banana once a week. If I cut out the fresh fruit would I be okay to feed them this food?

Alternatively, would it be alright to mix this with there ordinary pellets a couple times a week?

I nearly ordered this for my boys last week, but decided not to when I realised it was alfalfa-based. Alfalfa is great for baby/pregnant pigs but has way too much calcium, in my opinion, for daily feeding. That plus the apple, as you say... It does look like it would probably be delicious for a piggie though, so maybe as an occasional feed.

I feel like a very silly piggy mummy for not knowing about alfalfa hay being bad for them. Definitely only suitable for a treat so. I might get them one of the small bags. I'll have to check the pellets they're on at the moment to make sure they're not alfalfa based too mallethead

my 2 girly piggies dont like burgess excel! Bertie is on this and I thought it would be easier to have them all on the same. They are throwing it out the bowl! They were on muesli/harringtons when I got them...:{

Aw don't worry love. It's not BAD as such, but obviously piggies can be prone to bladder stones etc. which would require a low-calcium diet. Alfalfa is just really high calcium and I don't like to risk it.

I've just ordered the JR Farm grainless pellets from Zooplus. My pigs love them and they look pretty nice and healthy, but the pellets are HUUUUUUUUGE. o.0 Definitely don't think all piggies could handle them! Before that they were on Harrington's though, and I was quite happy with those. Mine aren't fussy though.

They sound like my stubborn boys! They won't eat the plain Burgees excel, it has to be the blackcurrent and oregano flavour.

I've been thinking of trying the JR Farm grainless pellets and mixing them through the Burgees. They seem to be much better value than the Burgees. I seem to spend more on piggy food than I do on my own food!

Just so you know the calcium content in this food is 0.7% whilst the phosphorus is 0.5%, which is in fact a lot lower and more balanced than alot of other commercial brand pellets. The pellets actually contain dried carrots, peppers and parsnips, apple isn't listed in the ingredients. I've done a thread already on this food listing the entire ingredients list as well as what my own pigs thought of it. Hope this helps, can't link as I'm on my phone. :)

I know apple isn't listed as an ingredient but my friend got it for her girls and she told me it's in it. Maybe she's mistaken. I really need to research my food better
