HI,

I adopted two boars a while ago and was under the impression they were both under 2 years old.

When visiting the vet recently with one of them, I told him his approx ag and he told me he was alot older than that:(

I have noticed a grey streak in his black fur about 2 inches wide and was wondering if anyone knows what age piggies grey and what other signs should I look for that indicates old age?

Thanks

Hair colour is not a sign of age! Neither is loss of hair - that is down to skin parasites or illness.

One of the best ways to age a guinea pig (which is not easy at all!), is the all over appearance and especially the nails - throughout the life, they tend to get thicker and twistier.

I grew up with a guinea pig that lived to nearly ten years old, and you couldn't tell his age - it really surprised the new vet when he told him!
