Hi I was wondering if I could have some help on grieving guniea pigs. My female piggy pastes away- I’m not to sure why. And her sister isn’t dealing with it to well and I’m very worried. I believe the death came as a shock to me and the remaining piggy. I have tried giving her cuddles and food but she’s not having it. I returned her to the cage checking on her regularly and she isn’t moving a lot and is sitting in one place. Originally, she was a very shy guniea pig. I was hoping you could give me some tips or advice. Xx

So sorry for your loss hope your ok . If a guinea pig is feeling lonely apparently you can hang s mirror in there cage and it’s supposed to help with there loss as it tricks them to thinking is another piggy. Other people try putting a cuddly toy in there cage . Or maybe even try getting another pig to bond with your current one . Hope this helps x

Hi nand welcome!

I am very sorry for your loss!

Please have your companions vet checked. You always need to exclude the medical angle that a possibly contagious issue or the stress of the loss/lowered immune system may have caused first before you can be sure that you are simply dealing with acute pining.

Please take the time to read these two very helpful links here. They will talk you through all aspects in order and in much more practical detail than I can repeat in one post - it has taken me more than one day to write these guides!
Looking After A Bereaved Guinea Pig (includes links to recommended rescues in several countries)
Human Bereavement - Grieving, coping tips and support links for guinea pig owners and their children
Weight - Monitoring and Management

So sorry for your loss, please keep an eye on your grieving piggie and make sure she is still eating. Do you have any good piggie rescues near you that offer dating, so your piggie can choose a friend? there is a link to recommended rescues in the UK on the green bar, (don’t know where you are?)

Thank you for you help yes I’ve decided to monitor her and see how she gets on if there isn’t much improvement I will try a rescue centre
